Weekend of Woah!

Post by Chris_C » 19 May 2008 10:52 am

As some of you know, I do a bit of motorsport with my 300's, anything from autotests (driving around a set route in a car park/field) through navigational rallies to track days when I can. Saturday night was the Miglia Quadrato nav rally, which is entirely based in the City of London and takes the form of a Scatter, which is like a big treasure hunt.

Was complete different to anything I've done before, normally lots of driving country lanes to find a clue in the middle of no where, but having my nav calling "Slot right infront of St Paul's" rather than "slot right in 100.." is novel! It's great fun, and as it's all in London, it's quite hard to get lost or speed, so would be awesome for someone wanting to get involved. Fake as ever didn't miss a beat, which is more than can be said of the crew, we normally have very good results, but were in the second half of the 70ish runners looking at the provisional results. Thing is, it was soooo much fun going through the tiny streets (lots ~8ft wide!) in the middle of London, then suddenly realising we are heading the wrong way over Tower Bridge! Great stuff.

It ran from midnight till 5am Sun morning, so I've had a strange weekend. Sat making sure the car is ok, Sat night driving to London, then rally, then driving back, 30 mins later in the back of a Landy off to the Bealieiueieie (sp!? :p) autojumble then off for some off roading.

Bealueieieeiei was good too, 3 hoooooooge fields of random stuff, one being completely Landy based. Stuff is either super barganious, or very expensive, I managed to get a clock for Fake for a quid, but then found a 343 R Sport brochure (the A3 folded sheet with the red Mk1) which I've seen before, but don't think I have, and the guy wanted £8 for it. Tom, if you want it, he lives in Bonn ;) Also found a 244 (round headlamp) and red mk1 343 dealer model, priced at £25 and £15 respectively, again, I wasn't keen enough to get them though.

So, after making it home after all that, was on MSN around 7:30 ish, and kept falling asleep with laptop looking precarious, sorry anyone I ignored after that, housemate found me sparko around 11, and slept through till work time this morning!

Sounds like a good laugh. I'v done an AutoSolo in my 205 before which was a great laugh. You should come up to Castle Combe in the car sometime for a trackday

I'd love to mate, it's finding pennies for it atm. Seems Lotus on Track have a cheap one coming up though, I'll have to look into it!

My first outing os going to be at RS day (7th July) which is going to be £135 for the whole day of open pitlane :D Bargain. And i'm going to do a few of the Combe days later in the year at £165 for a sessioned day. Combes a great track, lovely fast corners and of corse it has Quarry corner which is one of the last challenging corners left in the UK

FWD FRENCH TAT! :D Actually...I'm quite partial to 205s, on the quiet. My mate's Mum had a black 1.9 GTI back in the early 90s, and I've kinda liked them ever since...

I'd have been game for the mk1 model and the brochure, Chris...you could have used it to pay off some of your debt ;)

cheers
