anyone know much about parking law

evening,
off volvo topic but vehicle related.
i've got a honda cg bike that i parked up in the lobby of the house (big old place divided into many flats) i reside in. one of the residents kicked up a fuss today and taped a message on the bike that i'd been warned and some other tape just all over the place. now apart from a bunch of really quite chilidish comments about the look of the bike in the lobby (its full of bare plaster and scaffolding anyway...(the lobby, not the bike)) he suggests it is against the law to park a vehicle in a house and it MUST be in a garage or on the street or whatever. he claims to be an architect (so i couldn't really argue with no knowledge of these sort of things), does anyone know if this is right?
cheers for any input
regards
