I also remember that. The ad's stunt men were sent out looking for cheap 300s (presumably the very first Mk1s at the time) which they practiced on. The report I read at the time said the people buying the cars didn't have the heart to tell the little old ladies their cars were doomed ...

360 has bias bit towards front, 48:52% is what I have learned, but never had any confirmation of that really.

But I don't know if M47R and diff is lighter or heavier than vario, but I know B200 is heavier than B14, so that is something that has puzzled me sometime, should get good scale to weight all corners so I could put that away from my list of uncertain values ;)

It is quite horrifying how many perfectly good cars have been destroyed because of moving picture, this saddens me a lot as a car enthusiast.

I read in a newspaper this weekend that a quarter of the price you pay for an average breakfast cereal packet goes towards convincing you to buy it

Crazy, isn't it?

I like to buy products with little amount of packaging so all those that make big pretty wrappings loose my money, but when looking big picture I believe they unfortunately win by doing that :(

With 300, even commercials are fun to watch, test drive would have been best selling point, when I first drove damn thing it felt like home ;)

But I'm not quite 'average' so to say, some say weird, I guess that is true also

Slightly off topic, but DAFchap, are you the gent who just joined popular classics? If so, feel free to post up some piccies of your car as most of us are interested in DAF's too, and yours is immaculate!

(infact, even if you arn't the same chap, post up pics anyway!)

 Crikey
Yes, it is indeed me, and thank you for your kind comments about my DAF 33, known for reasons lost in the midst of time, as the Blue Bullet.

It's getting a bit famous  because as well as the PC photoshoot a couple of weeks ago, it has already appeared in PC and Classic Car Weekly this year.

Despite running the DAF Owners Club website - all are welcome to visit and I've had a link to your site for yonks - I'm still trying to get my head around uploading pics onto forums!

By the way, I used to own a 340 Vario - and still miss it. It was an H reg GL, and I even got a personal plate for it - H19DAF. I think it may be around still.

And over the years, I became friends with Mr J van der Brugghen, who was DAF's chief design engineer, and led the development of the DAF77. Met him several times at his home and the DAF museum, and a friend and I translated and published some of his memoirs into English a few years ago.

And another thing - DAF Daffer who graces this site as well, told me about the planned joint club event - def up for that!

Cheers.
Richard

Great to have you here Richard :)

Uploading pictures to forum is not possible in way one would thought, but if you have picture already on website or some sort of image gallery, then you can link picture to forum.

When replying to a message, you will see load of buttons above box where you type text into, one of buttons reads "Img" in it, what it does is that it adds Img-tag to text box, then you write or paste address of image and press again "Img" button so that tag closes. It always needs opening of tag and closing of tag. URL is then similar, but it does not show picture right away, but reader must click address to see picture, this is good for large pictures as some have bit slower connection.

Example of Img-tag

Code: Select all

That shows picture in message.

URL-tag is then like this

Code: Select all

http://jtbo.pp.fi/images/360/DSC_0005.JPG
For clarity I put it also here in way it shows up in message where reader can click it to view picture.

http://jtbo.pp.fi/images/360/DSC_0005.JPG My brake pedal

Hopefully this helps a bit, it is bit difficult to explain simple terms, but if you have any questions you can ask :)

Yep, that's the one! Pleased to see that it is still around. I sold it to a DOC member from, I think, Essex way, way back in 1998/99. It went and handled well, and, as you will appreciate, used to anoy other "trendy" cars by either keeping up with them, or leaving them standing. It was the "varicose vein" shade of blue with lovely grey interior. Miss those heated seats.

Thanks for the pic tips - still beyond me! I managed to get a avatar thingy on the Popular Classics site, but if you asked me how I did it, I'd struggle to explain.
:?
There are a few pics of my 33 on our main site *blatant plug*!

I try to explain bit different words, I'm Finnish, we are bit stubborn so giving up is not accepted ;)

For example, to get this image show up in post:
Image

I need to type

Code: Select all

[img]http://dafownersclub.web.officelive.com/images/DAF%20building2.jpg[/img]
Those img texts in brackets make image visible instead of address of image, those can be made with button that reads "Img", but it is possible to write too.

You can get address of image by clicking right mouse button at top of image and then choose 'copy image location' or something similar in terms, then when writing a message you can right click into box where your text resides and choose paste and address of image is written to box where you are typing your reply.

These computers are rather stupid, so you only need to get such text into box and it will appear as image, it does not matter how you do it :D

But of course, picture must be uploaded first to some website (photobucket.com for example) for this to work out properly.

Hey JTBO, that's my DAF and pic!

Thanks for sorting it.

I'll follow your tips soon.

And nothing wrong with being stubborn - aren't we all? :D

Hi Richard, welcome along! I saw your car in Classic Car Weekly! Very nice indeed.

For those of you who are FOTV300 members, I think it was Kev Devine who sent a picture in of the actual car used in the advert, I seem to recall it was on display in a showroom at somepoint somewhere! I'll try and dig it out if I ever find time, as I found it really interesting. It certainly stood up to the impact pretty well.

Richard, that sounds like you might have some very interesting info for V3M's "history" section ;-)
