daf club NL visits daf owners club UK

Post by antiekeradio » 26 Jun 2008 04:18 pm

Hello all,

from saturday August 9 to saturday August 16th,
the Daf Club Netherlands is visiting the Daf Owners Club UK.

I will be there, too; and am working furiously (duh, not really, but anyways...) to be able to come round with my 1978 Volvo 343 DL "Black Beauty"

as this car is a CVT/variomatic, it is also a club car for the Daf Clubs.

I don't know if there are already some contacts between the organisation and V3M but perhaps some of the UK residents living not too far from Princethorpe (area rugby/coventry) are interested in a meeting / event / ??

If for whatever reason the BB is not finished or unreliable, I will take my "noisy but fast" blue 55 coupé

Greetings Wouter

i'm not sure what the people organising the week have in mind for the Sunday, but I'm there all week long so Sunday's fine by me :)

perhaps we/I should email evc@dafclub.nl to find this out.

greetings Wouter

You will be most welcome! The final "agenda" for the week is still being worked on.

We held a similar joint event in 2005, also based at Princethorpe (incidentally we are holding our DAF concours there this Sunday 29th June). The venue is Princethorpe College which is near Rugby and Coventry, just off the old Fosse Way. This Sunday also sees their annual motoring festival, where there will be various other makes to see.

The event in 2005 was a marvellous time - DAF after DAF and Vario Volvo belting along through rural England..

Wonderful company and friends.

Over the years, the DAF Owners Club and DAF Club Nederland have held several joint meetings both in the UK and in Holland. Our club (the DOC) is very small compared to DCN, but we have been associate clubs and friends since we first became aware of each others existence in 1983. At the time, the Dutch were amazed that a group of Brits people should like their cars so much!

There are a few pics from the 2005 event on the main DOC site (which i am still "re-building". If I get a mo, I'll try and find the link to one of our Dutch friend's site where he put hundreds of pics from that week.

Sounds like a fun week! Pity I'll have to give it a miss, I'm in the UK 3 weeks too early ...

Shimon, sounds like the yellow 343 would be just the right thing for that meet ;-)

I may be able to make Sunday 10th...hmm!

I can bring the 343, as long as I won't get kicked out for exporting 3 Dafs (well...one Volvo 66 and two Daf 66s)...sm56

cheers

Please don't think me being "jobsworthy", but if anyone is thinking of joining us on the Sunday (or whenever), could you please send an email urgently to Alex, the main organiser, who has put a lot of time and effort into getting the arrangements right. (apd at ntlworld.com)

This is to do with numbers/space/capacity etc at the venue, plus there are costs and logistics involved as the Sunday sees the barbecue that has been bought and ordered in etc for DOC/DCN members attending, and some other pre-planned/organised events.

Thanks.

What is the plan for the week? I'm supposed to be at an autosolo on the 10th, but if there is a big meet I'd re-arrange. I don't have any rubber bands in my gearbox though!

There are various activities for the week, along with periods of free time for our Dutch visitors to come and go here or there.

These include a pre-booked visit to the Morgan car factory and Jaguar museum, and treasure hunts/pleasure runs around and about Warwickshire and parts of Leicestershire.

The most "exciting day" in terms of seeing lots of DAFs and people all together, will be the Sunday 10th August - the first full day that everyone is here, as most are arriving at various times on Saturday 9th. This will be general introductions/rekindling friendships, admiring each others cars, but also will see timed driving tests within the college venue's grounds. It is also the day when some DAF OC members will be there who cannot stay for the whole week.

We did these driving tests on the last joint event and they were tremendous fun, with some folk really pushing their de-dions well, and those with swing axles trying the same, but not quite as securely.

There is also a large barbecue being held on the Sunday, and the local pub, The Three Horseshoes, is looking forward to increased takings over the week along with a lot of Dutch and English singing.

Again, Volvo 300 owners (preferably Variomatic!) are welcome to come along but do please let Alex know first (as mentioned above). This is basically to do with logistics but also venue capacity/security etc.

Hello again.

More details of the "DAF Week" are now on www.dafownersclub.co.uk under "50 Years of Variomatic".

If any 340 owners would like to attend, then great! But without wishing to sound too much like a beauracratic official, you need to let us know by completing and returning the form on the site.

The "main day" will be Sunday 10th August, which sees everyone being around the site all day, with a barbecue followed by the competitive driving tests in the afternoon.

Latest indications are that there will be 45-50 DAFs coming over to the UK from Holland for the week, and a smattering of UK DAFs dipping in and out. Cars, not trucks!!

Thanks.

last thing I heard was 29 teams from the Netherlands, and another 15+ from the UK

but this are the figures for the teams that participate in the entire event. I hope there will be many people on sunday 10th!!

who from V3M will be there????

In the meantime I have been busy with my 343 so now I can say with confidence that I will be attending with a rare 343 DL in "Black Beauty" edition -> the car you see in my avatar, but now with yellow "46-DLG-8" plates :)

I emailed Alex...do I still need to fill in the form on the website?

I hope to be there, but can't be sure yet, and I suspect I may be in the S70 instead of the 343. I have a wedding to attend on the Saturday, and I'm not sure the noise the 343 makes would be welcome. I will have a think about it, though.

cheers
