Magnitude of expenses
Magnitude of expenses
Just talking to Steve about this, I've never realised it before.
I've a few hobbies outside of cars, one being kiting (trick kiting, kite surfing, you name it tbh)
I was just looking at a new kite, and showed it to Steve, and he pointed out how expensive it was. I've just realised that I have bought 4 kites that have cost more than all but one of the cars I've ever bought, and yet I always find myself justifying the car purchases, not the kites.
Anyone else mad enough to not realise how much a hobby costs?!

Don't know really, you perhaps can tell:
240 diesel for almost 70 000km car cost 850 euros + repair and service 1300 euros for full year, taxes and insurance 800 euros, total of 2950 euros for year.
Moving to new place for better living quality 480 euros, house XX XXX euros, required repairs for house 3600 euros (every evening I hope next day will be without new surprise), all kind of tools and hobby equipment to garage 2500 euros.
Poor 360, trailer + transfer to new place 80 euros, new brakes 256 euros, timing belt, tensioner, gaskets etc etc, maybe total of 100 euros.
Yeah, well when one sees it on paper it looks like quite like so that car I like most does not get as much of money, but then again one could say moving to own house is investment to 360 too
I'm having bit tight budget as that 3600 euros was not really on budget, so it did come behind of tree so to say, not bad for a time it is good for, but paying it in one month's salary is something that puts belt bit tight.
I really would like to cut my expenses to half, but not so easy, 240 needs mot and it needs some serious welding I'm afraid, quite hard to do myself as need to be at work and it is underside of car that needs attention.

One of the most expensive hobbies you can have is small children. You need more space (bigger flat, house), more food, more clothes. Usually the wife stops working, at least for a bit, so you support her too. You have less time to spend working on the car, so you pay people to do it for you. Holidays? Two rooms instead of one. Cheap flights? Multiply the the cost advertised by four.
The list goes on ... Not that I'm complaining or anything mind

It looks like my moving is not going too well when I'm jumping here at forum all time, Sunday 7am is deadline and I still have all closets and kitchen to pack, oh yes and that 3m² storage 'cage', so could be short sleep for next few nights.
My camera did cost bit over 500 euros I think, but then I managed to broke objective from it, some trouble with gears, and new one was 75 euros, so with that 75 euros I might got some new stuff for car again.
But for some reason I'm quite happy to my decisision:
indeed i know the feeling
Audio fanatic here.
its weird though. i dont like justifing the want to spend £200 up on a decent pair of speakers for the car and will go with a cheaper pair yet will quite happily pay out hundreds for a top brand amplifier!
then theres tools. i was suposed to be putting £50 of my wages monthly in a pot so i coudl just buy tools to fill up my rollcab,( trained greasemonkey) that went out the window in petrol ont he 340.
i stopped the majority of my hobbies though when i was in my previous relationship as i rather i spent the time with her. so its crazy to figure out where your money goes( buying cheapo motors )
i will never have enough money thanks to buying cars.

yes it uses go juice but I have never had a more reliable car ,
it uses no oil or water and is as luxurious as a lexus in 6 months of ownership petrol has been its only expense

this is a mega flame worthy car to buy , I've just done 150miles in a new company car, an astra 1.7 cdti estate! (someone already had the golf gti pool car ) - I know it runs on devil juice but for a 100bhp in a heavy car it seriously shifts as it has a monster amount of torque!!! It only really starts to handle badly above 90mph (private road...) and once you know how and when the power is delivered it will easily allow safe overtaking. Not to mention the good economy.
Puts on the flame jacket.......
and I can understand the hobbies thing, I've spent a lot on guitars and my amp without really thinking about it, but it was definitely worth it!
