White / dark indicators

Post by jtbo » 06 Jul 2008 02:18 pm

I just saw american tv program where they made rear light lens with some plastic mold kit.
http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/ab_auto_r ... 04,00.html

That made me thinking, one could use any colour he likes so virtually any colour of lenses should be possible, also original colour and part would be like new.

Best part would be that there will be all E markings too, so in theory no trouble at MOT

What do you guys think about it?

That does look really easy to do and would make having to scrounge for small parts like indicators a thing of the past lol, you could even make your own custom shaped indicators.

Indeed, I'm always have felt some weird interest towards casting of things, problem has been so far heat required for most of stuff, but this seem not to need any heating and silicone produces quite perfectly matching copy as it can fill even tiny shapes on surface of part, unlike sand for example which is used for metal casting.

They seem not to sell kits in here, closest place is some island called UK ;)

Anyone interested to do search for a kit? I don't know online hobby shops in UK, those might be my best bet?
