Build your dream 300

Got an idea from another thread.

Pick features from different 300 series cars (mkI, mkII, mkIII) and make your dream car.

For me it would be:
mkII base car with B19E engine
MkIII mechanicals (gearbox, suspension etc.)
replace frontal area with MkI front + hood
MkI dashboard
Rest of interior from MkIII
Paint and anticorrosion from late 940/960 series

Hmm... This is going to be interesting.

Well

Mk.3 body and suspension etc.
3.27 diff with Hör difflock
Leather interior, AC, electric windows and mirrors. Maybe electrically adjustable front seats
B254 with proper lambda guided management.
Factory bodykit, Cetus-alloys

Other stuff is just optional.

B254 might be bit off from production line

But nice choice of options you have made :)

My car (Mk2 3 Door GLT).

Lowered 1" all round (Was ready to order this, but Dai's disappeared).

D5 in the front.

Some kind of LSD in the back.

Full leather interior, in aubergine.

Stealth install Sat Nav (I'm working on this)

Cruise (I have it, just too lazy to fit it)

Remote central locking

Gutters shaved.

Immaculate bodywork and a cream Racing stripe down the middle of the car.

If I had a car like this, I'd run it for ever....

A lot of the stuff I wanted I've done to my cars (well, one or the other ;))

Remote central locking I had on Kar, and really miss it.
AC
195's on decently wide rims
New bushes and suspension
Slipper
Quickrack
Snowcap/hella grill/bodykit
MK3 GLE interior
New B172 (or 16v 2.0)

Problem is, Volvo didn't make most of that...

Electric leather seats, Leather door panels
Retrofit climate control from w210 MB
Trip computer in dash
White gauges like jtbo :)
Hydraulics
Kick ass engine watever it may be

I was thinking of putting some leather in my car as my cousins does that stuff but again I can only dream with the amount of money it costs :(

---------------------------------------------------
So my dream car may not be entirely sourced from 360 parts

Good thread..........

3rd in gloss/satin white, with no sunroof (shame I've got one) with a nice black line down the side. (You know a very small pin stripe)

Lowered all round on coilovers and big brakes.

HID lights

F7P on bike carbs

A real LSD so I don't kill tires.....actually I'd kill more of them

Dog leg straight cut box, hydraulic handbrake, full roll cage, buckets 'n' harnesses

Quickrack with a nice suade steering wheel.

I can only dream :)

Can I build two dream cars please?

The first one:

an early 5dr MkII GLT
colour: silver or white or red
standard exterior except for 14" Leos and the wide "Junior" decals underneath the side rubbing strip

Hör "engine kit" with a whole load of documentation so I can still run it as a classic car (H-registration plate) when it's 30 years' old.

power steering
Konis and new poly bushes all round
standard GLT ride height

late Mk1 / early Mk2 dash with a crackly push-button AM/FM radio above an extra gauge panel (oil temp & pressure)
air conditioning
central locking but manual windows, manual mirrors, no sunroof
"cash register" trip computer

heated black leather interior including some kind of solution for the let-down door cards

The second one:

a MkII 360 GLS 4 door
colour: non-metallic green or maroon
exterior definitely standard, including chrome grille, chrome bumpers, chrome window surrounds, Hercules alloys

LPG
some kind of twin carb setup
Variomatic transmission (has that ever been done on a 360?)

some kind of garish velour interior like red or green
MkIII dash (heater controls) but with 6-dial Smiths' instrument panel
Volvo MTS radio/cassette with a Volvo HA-4020 amp to boost the output to 4x20W ;-)
extra gauge panel with voltmeter & oil temp
Monroe Ride-Levelers at the back with a compressor to pump 'em up
A/C / power everything / a sunroof recently overhauled with brand new components
engine pre-heater
towbar
cruise control and remote central locking

How about a third and a fourth dream 300? An '81 R-Sport with no further modifications, a '79 DL manual in yellow ...
... umm this is getting all far too tempting ...

Like your thinking Tom, tasteful options. Being galvanised tops my list! I have been mad enough to consider a 360 vario, I think it'd make an interesting car, it's probably been done, but I think things would need beefing up to work well. The revvy little 1.4 works well, but it always seems so strained, I think a B200E might make it a little more relaxed. Too many ideas, not enough time in life!

I'm working my way through your list though slowly complling the bits for my cars!

(Btw I haven't forgotten about those brackets Tom!)

Chris, a few wmc'rs and I were joking in the pub about how funny it would be to build a vario turbo with a huge loud exhaust... it would be the most comical sounding car ever!

Oops, I just did ;-) The spotlamps would go on the GLS, the chrome back suiting that car slightly better than the matt-black trimmed GLT ... In "real life" I'll be fitting them to my GLi rather than the GLT, for the same reason.

Isn't Frits doing something along those lines ;-) ?
