Re: 1986 340(the results are in)
Yeah Dan that's pretty harsh luck. My rear lights have been playing me for a fool too, try lots of cleaning with something aggressive like isopropyl alcohol. Hope the retest works for RRG!

Cheers guys, hopefully she will be ready for saturdays retest, most of the welding is done now so just lights handbrake and exhaust left.

Re: 1986 340(the results are in)
I've just got in from working on fitting cruise control to the 740 (ready for the long trip down to Zomerzet at the weekend!)...and in messing with the brake pedal switch (from where it derives +12v for its own switches for the brake and clutch pedals) the damn things don't switch off half the time, and adjustment appears to be...non-trivial. Bloody cars, eh?
cheers

Cruise control would suggest that the 740 is going to actually be drivenfoggyjames wrote:cruise control to the 740

Cruise control?
Because resting one of your feet on a pedal is like, way hard?
Has the world gone completley American now?

Re: 1986 340(the results are in)
Resting your foot on the pedal of Ryans 700 means you are likely doing 1, maybe 2 million mph
After driving the Scoob the last few days I now see why cruise is a necessity in silly power cars!

Ah, THAT 740.
I thought it was a generic, un-awsome-ised one.
I cannot even imagine that much powers.
Which is probably for the best.

Re: 1986 340(the results are in)
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that welding looks a little suspect.... only mentioning it because it's for an mot. I'm not a good welder but I would suggest that the welds aren't penetrating well if you had to grind lots off the top to get them to the stage in the picture. If I were you, I'd practice on some metal of similar thickness to setup the welder well, with the goal of smooth torch motion, as heat management is the main game with welding.
Like I say, I'm not very good with a welder myself though...
Other than that the car looks fantastic in primer!! - keep up the good work ethic

Cheers for the kind words guys i praying it passes on saturday, got work till 2 tomo and then im straight onto the hand brake which is stiking and generally not working well.
Im not doing the welding myself my mate is who has done loads for me to get me through the last mot. I dunno much about welding myself just hope the mot man likes it, cheers for the advice tho Jason.
Im really tempted to leave it in primer and laquer her up but well see.

If you actually got off your lazy girly-car brummie arse and came to a meet or two, you'd have seen plenty of it this year Coming on Sunday, then?SteveP wrote:Cruise control would suggest that the 740 is going to actually be driven
Cruise is a beautiful thing for long motorway drives. It sounds lazy....until you have it. Then you wonder how you ever did without it.
The 740 isn't that bad on the motorway...you have to drop a couple of gears and weld your foot to the floor before starts attempting to rearrange your internal organs. It's not *that* quick...but I tried following Ryan (plus two passengers) in the 740, with me in his C70 T5. No way I was keeping up...! Trouble at the moment is with bad behaviour from it. We need to give it some TLC...like an overhaul of the MS installation, starting with a better box, and a connector which wasn't designed with a printer in mind...!
cheers

Re: 1986 340(the results are in)
I can see the benefits of cruise, I was in two minds with it when I had it on my T4... on one hand it saved ya right foot but on the other it was pretty weird when it wanted to accelerate slightly and it starts coming on boost when theres no need!
