hi jtb, thanx for checking out my pics.i know-shed loadsa work-things just are not going my way lately lol-if i can find another 300 in better condition i'll buy it.ipsofacto. :)
yeh the underside has been checked by our local mot man latley and its sound underneath but unsurprisingly i'll doubt it'll pss nxt years mot without good quality elbow grease.
im really happy to have joined this forum though as you guys all seem friendly and share a key interest. :D
i must admit its annoying though when you ask around for bodywork specialists and theyre either up o thier necks with work (lucky things) or people dont wana touch it cos its a 300 (resentment eh?) :(
never mind,i'll see maybe i'll find someone who can do it.shame cos the engine is very sound and its never missed a stamp in its long life at the mot.

My car has two places underside that need welding, then two doors need to be fixed or replaced as they are missing bottom side of them, one fender needs to be replaced, also has few odd spots of rust at body panels, not at seams but in middle of flat part, also engine would need to be replaced or overhauled, then it needs some bushings and joints renewed, which is about all of them except one or two.

I'm still two minds about it, should I get another one or keep working with current one, finding good condition 3dr GLT is surely tempting option, but work I have already done for this car is something I would perhaps do any new 300 I can buy :P

hey jtbo i know its a bummer isnt it?were in the same boat-its a shame they didnt make the 300s as rust proof as the big volvos.i just wish i had the equipment and skill to do it myself-im just a bit overwhelmed when i look at rust.my dad showed me how to do the repairs but i think what my car needs is some experieced tlc-im awful when i tried to do a patch!lol

what a great car the volvo 343/345/340/360 is,its just a shame they didnt really think about the rust resistance- is suppose back then the rust treatment and such wasnt as advanced as what youd get these days.

what a great car though-i cant think of another car that i want to have atm-ofcourse i do like the vw sciroco and the alfa romeo gtv6 but theyre so pricey to buy and i can imagine the problems on those are a lot worse and more numerous!lol.still lets see what happens hopefully progress is achievable.

i think its now safe to refer the volvo 343/345/340/360 as a classic car when people are refering to thenford sierra as modern classics in classic car magazines!haha randomness.

It is indeed troublesome, but when I check out our local car sales website I'm dragged to reality, there are not many 2ltr 3 doors available, mostly their condition is much worse and if I'm going to find 2ltr injection model with 3 doors it is going to be quite impossible, especially as it has to be 85-86 model for me.

So I end up to fixing her up.

I'm pretty much worthless with body repairing myself, but I'm not going to let that put me down, with practise I'm sure I will improve. Here is thread about my 240 project, where I welded for first time, welds were not really too great and I'm probably redoing those few times before I'm happy with it.

I'm still missing quite few tools, but slowly buying them as my budget allows, sanding paper, paint and such are not really expensive so it does not matter even one have to redo patches several times, time is more of issue at the moment.

Welcome Ed, there's plenty of help available here.
Your 60 doesn't seem that bad really, they always rust in random places. For example, it's quite rare not to have rust on the front edge of the bonnet. Compare a 300 with any other hatchback from the same time and they're not that bad. I saw an R plate escort today that was totally shot, and it's 8 years newer than any of my 300s!

Get on top of the rot, the sooner you do, the easier it will be :D

And, it could always be worse: http://www.volvo300mania.com/forum-uk/v ... ight=story
