Enjoy it while you can, then. My friend had a GSA as his daily driver about 5 years ago, and it went from looking really tidy to notably rusty within 12 months. Eek!

cheers

James

Well it hasn't changed too much in the last 15 months, it's just you have to keep up with the maintenance.

But yes, as a daily, it becomes a bit like painting the Forth Bridge.

Scary...I've heard this from MANY different sources. Maybe a GS is a waste of money and time.

Not at all, it's pleasure you can't measure.

 I'm not really a Citroen nut, and I was desperate for a motor at the time (having had my 66 stolen/crashed) and was looking for something in the right price range that was ready in excellent / good condition and road legal. I don't believe they are any worse for dissolving than any other car of the period. Certainly a million miles better than those Ritmo/Stradas (not difficult I know  )

It's been one of my more reliable cars and I really haven't had to throw much money at it.............yet.

The GS doesn't hide it's rust, (unlike some cars that hide lots of it.)

I did read from study of some sort which claimed that modern cars rust beneath all kinds of plastic wrappings that have been applied to them. It gets even worse because usage of modern steel, now structures are not made from so thick metal and even little rust can compromise strength of car safety chassis.

With older type car you could see the rust, but with new types it is virtually impossible to tell if car is rusty or not when you are buying one used.

Isn't GS's motor air cooled boxer?

Good CX Turbo2 or CX 25 TRD would be quite nice too, imo. Good ones are just impossible to find or then they ask silly prices. Also with daily rides parts can be an issue with some models.

I can't say that I would love Citroen too much, poor quality parts (electrics) with odd design features. However good thing is that those are quite comfortable and quiet cars, some RWD models would been good for brand, imo :D

Yeah, the GS/GSA use a 4 cylinder air cooled boxer...very similar in principle to two 2cv engines bolted together. There was also the GS "Bi-rotor", a twin rotor wankel, but they were so unreliable that almost all were recalled by the factory and destroyed.

Most cars now are scrapped before they're really rusty.

cheers

Ok. I just landed 1977 Volvo 66GL at my garage.
It was cheap and rusty and there's a nice moss growing on it :)
Hasn't been driven for 10 years.

We'll see where this leads...

Awesome news!
Pics please.
Moss must have been a good dealer option in the 1970s?

Love it. Does it have all the 'Scandinavian-spec' niceties like headlamp wipers and such?

Headlamp wipers, bigger wiper fluid tank on top of the steering gear, 45Ah battery, intake air warming system.

The headlamp wiper arms are removed and I don't know where to find new ones.

Cheers to you all!

Yes, I'm alive. Had a tour with Citroens. Six of them. Now I'm back with Volvos.
