You must be referring to someone else, because the Gauge Guru did indeed lose his sunroof last summer.

Yes, I did indeed lose my sunroof panel at about 90mph - and it was a miracle that no-one was killed in this case too. I felt pretty bad for a few days....then picked up a slightly-rusty replacement panel (in the right colour) for £5 at the local breakers :)
