Home Port/Polish...
Hi Guys
Well I got my head back, and I'm pleased its in pretty good shape along with the valves. I'm going to have ago at porting/polishing it myself, so I've got some Carbide Burs and a Polishing Kit on its way. I've read a couple of books on the subject now and I'm hoping to make a decent job of it. Has anyone done this work on a B200 head before? any pics? any tips? any advice would be more than appreciated!
These valve guides are abit odd aswell...toying with the idea of smoothing them off with epoxy....thoughts? as I'm very unsure about this.

Theres some very good books about head work out there, but be dubious of everything, seems there are wives tales about pretty much all of it to confuse you. I'd be very dubious of polishing, having the air tract too smooth stops the turbulence (so air has a higher velocity, great) but has the problem of no longer keeping the air and fuel in suspension, so the fuel drops out, at best creating an "unmixed" mixture in the cyl, so a bad wavefront on burn.
Porting should be more than possible, I was just going to take a die grinder and an a gasket and wind one out to match the other.
As to epoxy... I'd be wary, but I don't think I'm understanding you properly! Whats odd about them?

Hmm, novel on the guides, have a look at the green books. I was thinking about dull and mirror, but as I've not done it before was dubious of going to far and mirroring both! Take some piccies when you get involved, I'd be interested.Cloud wrote:hehe the guides are just stuck in there...they have to be a restriction. Aye, I'm putting a dull smooth matt finish on my inlets and mirroring the exhausts.

the inlet should be slightly rough as chris says, also make sure you have a good quality gasket by a reputable manufacturer if you are marking up for port matching. I would have a search on turbobricks as critique of the redblock heads pops up quite often (though don't trust everything you read!). It's very easy to make the head flow worse than better. Also bear in mind the golden rule of fluid dynamics - if it seems logical then its not
Then you should be all set, good luck!

Hey Sven...yeah i've started it...not abit of wonder people charge a fortune for this kind of work...Got it on my desk at the moment and I've managed to sort out 1 exhaust port in about 4 hours, and thats just decarbing it and shaping...still have to polish the sucker.
Ah, before i forget, i came across this:

The cut aways have been a big help and it was some nice confirmation about the throat of the inlet ports.

Aye well young Cloud-ya see the bit where it says send us a pm-that was to save ya a bit of heartache and possibly a bit a cash.
Still as the saying goes," I've started so I'll finish" so on you go.
If you haven't got a flowbench, which lets face it you won't,establishing whether you have made progress will at best be haphazard.
On a plus side if you're matching your ports that'll be good as for the polishing ,well,we'll see.
Good luck tho'.
Why don't ya just buy our kids 45 dellortos that'll add a bit o' go.

:O didn't you get my PM? Nope, no flowbench, I could probably make something out of an old vacuum and a manometer but what I'm doing is just common sense smoothing, I'm not going mental with it. It'll probably turn out worse but what the hell, thats a good excuse for a turbo lump!sven360 wrote:Aye well young Cloud-ya see the bit where it says send us a pm-that was to save ya a bit of heartache and possibly a bit a cash.
