still dreaming of genuine accessories?

Post by Duvel78 » 09 Nov 2008 04:56 pm

This morning I was reading the accessories brochure again, and I realize that after all these years, I still miss some of the toys! :D Of course the list is shorter now but I have the feeling that I won't give up if I can't find everything   Do you have the same feeling? What do you really miss on your 300? I'm talking here about the genuine accessories.

My christmas list is:

- sport steering wheel
- genuine radio amplificator
- plastic sunroof
- protection for the boot
- dog guard (even if there will NEVER be a dog in my 300s :D )
- adaptative rear suspension
- genuine baby seat :D :D
Collection: '78 343 Black Beauty, '82 345 GLS, '83 340 DL 2.0, '84 340 DL vario, '88 360 GLT 5d (2x) & 4d (2x), '89 GLT, '91 340 vario
Dad's cars: '87 340 vario, '89 340 vario
Lot of donors cars and parts...

The baby seat? Sooooo dangerous! No offspring of mine is travelling in that 80's shite ;-) I thought about the dog guard once too, good when travelling with the boot filled to the roof with no parcel shelf. There is some stuff that I'm not too fussed with either, spare fuel can holder, and mudflaps for example ...

Ride-levelling, front spots and 80's radio with amp will hopefully be fitted soon ;-)

Really high on my wanted list is air con. Although I am not too fussed about the originality of it, as long it works and the button is correct ;-)

I would love this GT steering wheel:
Image

and the pad for the Momo (R-Sport) one as it's missing from mine.

The early VDO econometer would be nice:

Did you see the variable intermittent wash-wipe on Ebay Aymat? 50 Euros, wow ...

<edit>
I just noticed all those smilies next to "baby seat". Are you telling us something? ;-)

Plastic sunroof? Novel...

If you want the radio amp give me a shout, I'm not going to fit mine.

You missed the grill cover, so that you can keep air flow off the radiator too, they look awesome I think just not practical here!

I briefly thought of fitting that last winter when there was a splattering of snow. But decided against it. Our winters here are very mild ;-)

LOL, I hope you aren't talking about the 300 series!!

No that was just a joke, actual baby seats are safer. But it would be fun to have one! As I have a new "Child safety bench" for the space between the front and rear seats

Would love a set of "Cavity covers" , but have yet to even see a set, let alone have an opportunity to buy!

Good luck with your wish list.

After seeing a set of Volvo ones, I ended up making a set. The proper ones were a bit flimsy tbh, though they do still look good. Mine were just 6mm MDF sprayed black as I wanted practical rather than pretty at the time. Pete made some awesome one's for Mick's Redline a few years back, using 300 glovebox catches.

Do you mean the boot tray, like the floor trays and with 6" sides, or the rubber mat? I got a boot tray a while back, it's really useful for carting wet rubbish around

Here it is:

IIRC it was an accessory for the '78 - '82 dash. It doesn't look very Volvo-specific though (that looks like a Hella logo in the picture).

There are two types - the standard type (from around '83 to '89) which is actually quite sturdy IMO, and a rare late type which came out in 1990. These are really flimsy, I have a set and they are warped from where the previous owner carried too much stuff in them and the catch to close them is broken.

There's a dog guard on ebay at the mo if you want one.

Would also be good if you've got valuables on the back seat you don't want anyone nicking if you leave the boot open to carry in shopping or anything. That's another advantage of the saloon - boot separate from the interior ;)

I'd call it a disadvantage, but only in very rare cases. I vaguely remember that in the early 80's when we had a 343, one winter morning the door locks were all frozen solid, but the boot lid lock could be opened for some reason. My dad then climbed in through the back and opened the doors from the inside...
