Just one point on getting the policy in someone else's name (e.g. a parent) and being added as a named driver.

I believe technically the driver who's policy it is (the parent) is supposed to use the car most (on average). There's no real way for the insurance people to prove it (unless they spy on you :P) but just a warning to people that this may not be a good idea if the parent never drives it.

Also on the no claims bonus side - some companies now offer no claims to named drivers. I think this might only be transferable to a new policy from that company though rather than between companies as normal NCB. I'm hoping it will count when I eventually get a policy in my name.

it's usually the mileage that ups the policy, my little rally pug is covered for 2000 non-event miles (unlimited event miles) a year with any mods allowed (even including extensive engine work if I wanted) and that only costs me £300 a year and includes the on event cover which would normally cost upwards of £15 an event. Which is ridiculously cheap imho considering I'm only 21, especially if you consider that your average 21yo boy racer would be paying a huge premium if he had a saxo vtr with alloys and a stupid bit of fibreglass stuck on it.

Sorry for the off topic post, but what else did you think about the 190E ? After last weekends' Top Gear, watching Mika Häkkinen blast around the Finnish forests in one, I'm beginning to warm to them again.

I've driven two, a 4-speed 190E 1.8 which was slow and boring, and a 2.3 Sportline auto, which was fun :-)
