ive just been running some insurance quotes and it turns out i can get insured on an 850 T5R for the same price as a basic land rover discovery, J 1992 ish. which is pretty mad i think!
i also got a quote for the 360, the numbers varied from 600 a year to some where c.5000 which is insane!
hopefully when im 21 it'll get cheaper!
rant over with, there's no one here to let out my frustration on and the xbox has given up

Get your self a sex change guys. Vivky only pays around £200 ish a year for the 340 is 5 years ncb and the same for the 240 with only 1 years ncb!

You have to declare alloys to your insurance company?

And can't you tell them the kit was fitted to it since it was new? It is an original Volvo kit after all ...
In Germany I have to get any change like that added to the car papers, but I thought things in the UK were more lenient ...
Adult males under 25, huuuuuge premiums! I think I paid 800 pounds TPF&T for my Peugeot 405 when I was 21 - and that's quite a while ago. Many years on, my Trabant now costs me 80 Euros a year, the Volvo about 300 Euros a year (both TP only, any driver above 25), the Merc 120 Euros a year, fully comp on a classic policy, any driver.

Dai, how much for the coversion you mentioned?
and could I keep the parts you take off in case I'd like to switch back once insurance gets more reasonable?

Lol! I pay 80 euro's for all my classics (all 4 of them) And 220 for my '84 360. Im 21 and have 1 year without damage. I must say, it helps that I get a company-discount on all my cars :+

Any mod (even factory fit extras) are supposed to be declared. A lot of people don't, but insurance companies look for the first excuse not to pay out. It's the main reason I didn't fit alloys to my cars before, but I've got 7 years NCB now. Still took a lot of hunting to find a company who'd do it, as I was still 24 when I took it out. Now I'm 25 hopefully I'll have less hassle.
I can't get my cars on a classic policy, as I do a lot of miles (though that has reduced lately, I was doing 15k a year)

This is going to sound a bit gay, but might help someone so please keep insultsto a minimum please.
Its possible to get insurance for pennies as long as you get on under someone else (everyone im sure, already realises this to some extent.) not trying to patronise anyone.
because i havnt had my licence long, and am a young'un, insurance would have pretty much meant fanancial castration. and nobody likes giving money to men in suits, when it could be better spent on welding, wheels, turbo conversion, loose women, beer, more welding or petrol etc etc.
Anyway, long story short - managed to get on under my old man (hes already insured, so my 340 counts as his second car) fully comp, for us both (340) its like 86 quid fully comp. no excess.
Which means we can both enjoy the car, i get cheap insurance untill i can benefit from the discounts you get for being a bit older and having licence for more than three year etc etc.
Downside of course is that you dont build up any no claims for yourself so youre still due a big sting when you do go it alone. Also had to put the V5 in his name. No problem really, as long as you trust your dad..............
er, actually................................................................................

And as long as your dad trusts you - if you do something silly, you wipe out his NCB!

I'm gonna be dad from hell when my offspring learns to drive.

They'll get the biggest tank I can find with the weediest engine I can find. Maybe a Volvo 240 diesel with 79hp?
I was forced to learn in a MkII Golf with 55hp. Why should they have it any better?
Seriously though, the fatality statistics for young drivers frighten me as a parent. Hope that doesn't sound condescending ...
