Lolvo: worst update in web history

Post by OapEM » 13 Dec 2008 08:11 pm

*Copied from another non Volvo forum*

I finally got a chance to get some decent pics (Cheers Mark) of the Volvo 360 I bought a few weeks back. Thought I'd stick it up on here for those that want to see it and seeing as it will be on on going and more importantly road going project this seems the right section.

I bought the car from a local second hand dealers for £400 three weeks ago with the intention of having a laugh over the winter and getting into the tramp drift scene. It is a 2.0 carb one owner OAP special, 100% standard/original. 59K miles and barely any rust at all given that it is 25y/o in February. It came with the original FM radio/cassette (optional ) and some fly 6.5" speakers in enclosures under the front seats - stealth build ftw, 12 months MOT and I supplied 6 months tax. It is supposed to have 110bhp IIRC and it isn't slow given it's age/size. More than enough to have some fun in the dry
To my knowledge it has not been on the road since 1992.

So far I have given it new HT leads/plugs/air filter/fuel filter/dizzy cap/rotor arm and oil/filter. It also required a new mechanical fuel pump as the old one was gutless and fcuked me over more than once . I have also stripped and cleaned the carb as it wasn't running well at all. Bled the brakes yesterday and managed to snap a bleed nipple Also now for some reason the fronts are sticking on! The calipers 'seem' fine as do the pads/discs and rear drums/shoes but I guess they may need refurbishing.

Typical after I missed a pair of NOS calipers on eBay for a fiver each!

Anyway, brief future plans then a few pics.

3" drop all round using mk2 Escort lowering blocks and 'maybe' cut the front coils - unlikely tbh. 13x7 Minilites or Wellers in black. Carb set up would be nice too . Along with the most important part, a MiG spec diff (lol) and a few other bits and pieces.

Not going too OTT with it, I've been told I got a bargain, should maybe be £8/900 as it would be nice for it to appreciate in value or at least retain it's current price and if I keep on top of it and do nothing irreversible then it should be fine.

Big thanks to Steve for helping me with all of the above and also Mark, Conor, Adam and Martin - must be nice to everyone Lol

I just need some rims and a decent ride height ASAP

Cool mate, just checke dout your 340. She's a clean one 8) Can't tell me you don't mess about with that 8 ball (forklift) type knob on the wheel? lol

I love your old Scimitar, very cool car! Aye mate a meet/run out would be cool in the new year. I know a lad with a 340 with welded diff and I know he'd be up for it too. We need to round everyone up lol

How much are you lowering yours by and what wheels? I reckon Wellers are winning me over. I have just been offered some unused mk2 Escort blocks from a lad on another local forum too. Probably will get them then break out the grinder and satin black lol

I thought I'd sorted out some nice minilite style 13s,

http://www.volvo300mania.com/forum-uk/v ... php?t=7176

but got propperly ebay shafted on them.
Still like minilites, or the wolfraces like I had on the scimitar, but they moved on with the car, and the pcd was a bit off anyway.
Just lookin for summat cheap that looks tight really man. No real hurry.
Mins you, wellers look good on OWT! if you spy any cheap, giz a shout man.

Yeah, moved the 8ball spinner to the inside right of the wheel so it doesnt look quite so 'disabled fork lift truck driver', but it helps with throwing the tinker round. Just not really into the whole sideways bit man.
havnt got the skill man, and many cars would die in the time it'd take me to learn properly.

drops going to be 2in i recon. Might leave a gap if i stick to small rims, but im not too chewed.

Escort blocks apparently work fine man, but the Ubolt that come with them wont fit, so you need straight jobs. Someone with sense'll tell you what size if you ask.

party on.

PLEASE DON'T CRASH IT.

No offence but I was stunned at how nice this is when I saw it. If you want an attractive part-ex for a black mk3 GLT(lower and stiffer but 5dr) let me know.
As for a meet, dragonville 28th december? Local Retro Rides meet, with a few trampdrifter types. A few of us are always up for a slide.
Really, I know that it's your car and your choice what to do, but please don't make any permanent changes or crash it, it's probs the nicest one I've seen. (And I've seen a few).

volvosneverdie. Gotta hate ebay for that carry on mate! That's why if it's local(ish) or a proper bargain I like to collect, especially wheels so you can check them over etc. Saying that though you should have been able to trust him as you say. Wanker.

filthyjohn, I won't abuse it mate. I have never wrapped a car yet and like to think I have a lot of common sense when it comes to driving/playing.
I probably would have taken you up on your part ex offer in favour of your mk3 when I first got this, but it has grown on me.
The Retrorides meet sounds cool, I normally avoid Dragonville etc now as I don't care for the 'cruise' scene (what little remains) lol
Cheers for the compliment on the car, it really is in good shape. I had a mk1 xr2 the same age and fuck me did that have some patches and panels from me!

I hope I can make Dragonville if I have sorted my annoying brakes catching on problem by then lol!

At the end of the day it's no Ferrari Daytona. If you need a spare pair of hands, or just wanna meet up for a skid, drop us a PM. (best be raining though, mine's a 1.4)

Sounds like what hapened to me dude........................

Oh look, a cheap motor thats good for throwing around for a year.

then I after I'd used it for a fortnight, I decided it was too good to throw around too hard.

Now i wont even let our lass in unless she wipes her feet!

theres lots of people seemingly getting minters at the minute (or Very good examples anyway) just to drift up. there plenty of newer exaples that'd fit the bill just as well if thats all peopl want to do with them. And to be honest, theres plenty of 'already drift spec'd' examples for sale now too. Dunno if peple are getting bored of them or what man, but bear in mind, once its done, its done.

youve got a gooooooood car there dude. Really good.

it'll probly see you out if you treat it right. Every day all day, pretty much til you get sick of it, so have a good think before you do anything unreversable.

Ok man, DONE!
preaching over.

Welcome to Volvo-world.

it starts on the button.
