Is H584YRH cursed???

Post by filthyjohn » 13 Dec 2008 11:40 pm

I had it on the road for a week and the prop went. Took a year to get it going again, and the prop went shortly after. Put in 14 hours of gruelling effort converting to manual, then one week later this happens:

Crap pics I know because I've been out all day towing in the 740 and it was dark when I got in. A charming young lady from across the road reversed her father's K112 micra into my pristine, beautiful ex-vario.
She's fessed up and the repair's out of her dad's pocket (£500 excess, chump).
But where oh where can I find a mint red painted bumper? And mint red wing? And mint indicator?

What was I towing?

Sickener man.
If you want a 924 with the wide arsed body kit, I know a lad that'll part with one.

Its 'half-track day'd' and needs a couple of little jobs, but probly credit crunch priced.

Bad luck comes in clumps man. My p.o.s red 340 was absolutley jinxed, and it ended up brning like the very flames of hell. Nowt went right with it. Sure someone once telt me red was the unluckyest colour for a car.

Never did Magnum P.I. any harm mind.

Sorry to see your red with a knock after all the hard work man. At least its only a ding though eh?

:)

though thats probably scant consolation.

Aye I'm lucky she owned up like. Opposite her drive there's now an impenetrable wall of expendable 740GL.
It'll get sorted, then probably sold before my luck kills it to bits.

Tell me more good buddy, I rather like them now for some reason.

2 litre,
Bosch K-jet,
Torque tube,
Rear gearbox,
odd rear suspension?

Sounds like a 360 to me!

Dunno much tbh FJ.
he boughit last year running as a track dayer from some ponce banker thatd lost interest. The headlights didnt pop up, but they turned on (lit up) and I think there was a couple of electrical probs (its a porsche!) but nothing serious as i recall. Me mates worse than me technical wise and only really bought it because it had the wide body kit on and it was going cheap. good wheels and tyres as i recall. never got to an MOT but kept in his garage since he got it. Since then hes passed his bike test and absolutley lost interest.
If youre serious I could set you up a look round it.

brunswick village, not far from me.

though be prepared for my description to be off the mark.
im working from memory here.

Mate i feel fot you, any good bodyshop can sort you out, just get a second hand front bumper and buy a new wing from volvo. Not too expensive genuine.

Girly driving fail.

I have a 360 bumper here, but it's not mint, and it's not red. Better that nothing?

cheers

From a 1303 beetle IIRC ;-) Not to mention the VW LT / Audi engine ;-) But niiiiiiiiiiiiiice.

Best of luck with getting it sorted, John. At least you're getting the money for it. There's a guy on German Ebay breaking a red GLT with colour-coded bumpers:

It's been on there for a while though, the car may have been crushed by now. But I can ask ...

I know one or 2 here in the NL. Do you have a coulourcode for me?

For 500 quid, you can always spray another bumper and wing...I believe they ask 150 euro's for one part over here...

Bad luck FJ, but lucky they admitted to it.

I do have a red bumper, from memory it is pretty spot on as well, it was a brand new one fitted to a car that had some damage once, so won't have been fitted to a car for all that long! The only problem is that large distance between where you are and where this bumper is! Let me know if you are interested though, as I'm sure we could work something out.

Can't currently see the pics as my t'interweb is playing up, but I hope you get it sorted. I'd personally go with getting a wing sprayed, as finding a good one is hard, let alone in the right colour. Indicator shouldn't be too hard though.

Pete you may be the winner here. If the bumper's close to mint then name your price as it's not my coin.
I'll be heading down the country next weekend so I can make the extra miles. :D
Thanks everyone for the offers of bumpers, obviously got to go with the correct colour to keep the efforts down. A bodyshop can sort the wing, but I'll be looking at the red 1.7 in the scrappy when I pull its DeDion off.

I'm still interested, though I tend to be raped by insurers.

Aye torsion bars! The car was sold as having a bust gearbox, even came with a replacement 4spd and torque tube. However today we discovered the box is FINE and the problem is with the woodruff key driveshaft arrangement. If you look at the pics, the drum should have splines to match the driveshaft. But it's worn smooth!

Swarftastic:

This should be splined along the whole length:

Holy Moly, a Porsche with basically nowt wrong for £200, with possibly that amount in spares?! Free Porka!

Code is, umm, red. I haven't looked. Hopefully I'll get sorted but thanks for the offer.
