Are my friends too fat?
Are my friends too fat?
Took my friends out in the new 340gl yesterday. 5 grown Males in the car, so about 55-60 stone i reckon. There were some scraping noises present with thhis much weight in... What could it have been? I thought it was the exhaust making contact with the roads... It was only present on less smooth country roads. Thinking about it now, coulld it have been the leaf springs on the back rubbing together differently under the weight?

Most likley - I've had it a few times.jtbo wrote:Just a wild shot, but I tell what made such sounds for my car.
There is jacking point near rear tires, sometimes these bend and can contact with rear leaf spring and make weird sounds.

That's more of a screeching squeaky sound. My money's on tyres touching the rear arches (at the top, right inside and directly above the highest point of the tyre). Have a look underneath and see if the underseal's been rubbed away.
