You can use Firefox or you can use that other browser that installs everything it finds to your computer without asking from you and all of sudden computer needs reinstall or other maintenance work to be done, so at least I prefer FF :D

My only current objection to IE is that v7 seems to use 100mb of memory at idle

IE7 sucks, and it looks like IE8 will suck too... Firefox ftw, or Google Chrome if you fancy some quick browsing.

The clicking link to open new window thing would still be nice tbh.

MJ, the view new posts still exists, click the orange thingy to the left of the thread title! I'm not sure if there is a "forum wide" new posts button, but I'd imagine there is somewhere!

In the main forum view, above the list of forums, there's this small text saying
" View unanswered posts • View new posts • View active topics "

Click the middle one, and you have all the topics listed that have new messages in them :)

There is already one thing I can say, a dark background with white / grey text will come back.

The template I'm using now is nothing more than the standard PhpBB design template, reason why there is nothing sexy about it, that bue isn't mine! :D The top priority was the upgrade, not the design. But I agree, it's not attractive at all yet, it will change.

For the moment, when I've some time, I'm playing locally on my computer with Joomla (thanks Steve for this discovery!) that I may use for the rest of the website (not sure at all) only if I'm happy with it and if there is a good bridge between PhpBB and Joomla. Wait and see!

If you want any custom pages designed Aymat, then I can do this quite easily... however the benefit of going with a content management system like Joomla is the ease of updating the site. However, you can achieve something that looks far better outside the constraints of a CMS template if you design something custom in HTML/CSS/PHP or whatever. I'm sure there would be enough funds from the V3M donors to purchase a decent quality Joomla template, though??

We did test Joomla in company, it has advantages and disadvantages, but I don't know how much updates website is planned to have so can't say if there is really benefit from Joomla. I have seen phpBB integrated to Joomla, but certainly I failed to see what is benefit of that.

If there would be daily news and lot of data on main web pages, I guess then Joomla would be nice, if updates are not so frequent and content of pages is limited, then it might be best off using normal pages.

But this is just my arsehole(aka opinion), it is different story with different arsehole

In my other machine I have grease monkey + stylish, with those FF plugins it really does not bother what colours web admin has chosen, I can always make them change sm4

Yep I think you're right Jani, alot of the 'general 300' information wont get updated anyway, and there's only so many brochures that they ever did... A standalone HTML/CSS site certainly would be easier to produce, but depends if there are plans to have any regularly updated information that a CMS would be ideal for.

I agree, a lot of the information on the rest of the site is "static" and doesn't really need regular updating. However, there still are gaps, and distributing the workload among more people means these sections could grow further and be updated more regularly.

Also, there are many threads in the forum (Technical Resources for example) which don't necessarily need to be located there, as they're locked and aren't "discussion topics" as such. Having a CMS with user administration could mean these sections could be moved over to a different area of the site. You could distribute user rights among more people, and have an admin for each section (brochures, technical docs, "V3m how to's" picture gallery, history etc.)

I can recommend "Redaxo" as an easy-to-learn CMS which is simple (compared to Typo3 anyway), but still has features like multilanguage pages, complete control over your own HTML Code, various addons and extensions etc. It's quite popular in Germany but relatively unknown elsewhere, and that will stay the case until they do an English version of their own website ;-)

Otherwise ... if there's only one admin maintaining the whole site then a CMS isn't strictly speaking necessary. Create some nice clean HTML / CSS code, put the header / navi / footer etc. in PHP includes and the site can still be updated easily in the future without the need for a CMS ...

THANK YOU! Except when you say 'still exists', you mean there was a similar feature on the old version that I never new existed?! I've needlessly wasted hours of my life trying to get to the first new post of every topic, every visit for the last few years

That is correct MJ, imagine how many miles you could been driving in 340 on that time, or how many times you could explain to me how on earth omni light passes trough a plane even it has shadows on and I have tried all kind of shadows, actually there are two planes with faces pointing opposite directions and it still goes trough
