Re: German 360 (16v project)
Did you notice that 360 which came up for sale in the south-west of Germany? A GLE saloon with PAS, air con, "grüne Plakette", 1 years' TÜV ... It sold for 650 Euros.

Bah tell me about it. My prop shattered last night, been spending a good part of 6 hours with a drill trying to get the seized bolt on the clamp off. No luck of coursetrabitom99 wrote: Winter is a bad time to work on a car, I know how you feel

Re: German 360 (16v project)
Tricks: Heat. Hammer a socket over it. Pop an angle grinder disc down the slot. Take the head off with a carbide burr.
Got a spare prop?
cheers

Re: German 360 (16v project)
Yeah I do, I'll probably get another soon as it's always good to have a spare. The splines look right to me but I've heard some horror stories that there's 2 different variations of spline numbers.

Re: German 360 (16v project)
I have a feeling that variomatics have a different number of splines, but that could be utterly wrong. I'm not as familiar with some of the finer details of 340s as I am with 360s, to be honest...

Re: German 360 (16v project)
splines are the same for the 340's but manual prop is longer than the cvt prop;
you can recognize a cvt prop also by the fact that it has no clamps and had a solid bushing for the splines instead of one that is divided in 3 for the clamp to work on it

Re: German 360 (16v project)
I've put it all in, looks good, works fine.
Except the rear dampers. Seems to me they are to short. If you press the rear down and then release you can hear a "bang" from the dampers because the suspension can't fully expand. Got the dampers from Dai so they should fit the car I guess...maybe some mistake by me?
Couldn't manage to get the drive shafts off so mounting the loweringblocks was a bit more work.

Re: German 360 (16v project)
i think your problem may be that the lowering blocks are incorrectly fitted. they are supposed to be above the lowering spring.
hope this helps!

Re: German 360 (16v project)
HOLY SHIT
Thats one stupid mistake by me! Of course it can't work the way I fucked it up! I had a look at Dai's guide before I went on to fit the blocks but somehow missed to check for the correct position.
Thanks for the clarification!

Re: German 360 (16v project)
Unless I'm missing something, that won't change the shock mounting position relative to the body by more than about 10mm, though.....how much is it out by?

Re: German 360 (16v project)
It will bring the body closer to the shock mounting plate by [block thickness] mm... Or am I missing something?
Re: German 360 (16v project)
Jep, about 2,6cm.
I should also be able to gain 2 cm or so by fitting spacers at both ends of the damper. So if the correct mounting of the blocks is not enough, that should do the trick.
