***The Great Dash Unveiling***

Post by Figgy » 15 Jan 2009 11:34 am

Well here it is at last, hopefully in before - after sequence and hopefully I've used the correct links, otherwise I'll be doing a wee edit.... Once again I must say a big sm4 and thank-you to Andy and Delahare for tracking down what I thought was the impossible here in Australia, a dash with NO CRACKS!

Lots of you may remember me oggling Durtys lovely un-cracked dash, here's why...

The dash you guys found for me is mint compared to that huh? When it arrived I think I was more excited than my daughter!
So after a bit of a clean-up I re-dyed the dash and centre console to match the colours up...think I'm going to have to do the door cards and possibly the steering wheel as well....still having a think about the wheel though. Now, back to topic, here's what the dash looks like now...

And now a pic for Tom to show what the guages look like in their new home...

Cheers!
Anne.

Good job matching the colours there!
Good work indeed.
Whole thing looks very tidy indeed.

That poor old dash you took out looks like it had a bit of a hard life!
Hope it gets a good burial, because it was certainly one dead duck.

Yep very, very sad old dash, still got a couple of bits to rat off it, then it'll get a good burial!

I wonder, if it would be possible to resurface that old dash with some filler, glue and vinyl/fabric of some sort? It is only surface damage in it?

Some nice velour could make it nice dash, which one could sell for lot of profit

Wow, looking at the first pic the sun seems not only to have cracked the dash but to have bleached the colour out of the speedo needles as well. Some climate :-)

Did you manage to get the extra gauges hooked up?

Anyway, congrats to you and the hubby for getting that work done. AFAIK swapping whole dashes over isn't exactly trivial ...

Touring car style flocked dash! I'd imagine in upsidedownland it'd have the same advantages as in racing re not reflecting in the screen?

Air con on/off maybe?

And, V300-spotters, check out the brake warning lights in the instrument cluster, anyone notice the difference ;-) ?

Tom – yes the colour of the speedo and the rest of the gauge needles are quite pale compared to the ones you sent over…still sorting the econometer, need to find some more vacuum hose for that – it will be easily solved. Ambient temp gauge may be a bit more tricky as we need to sort the wiring out – previous owner at some stage has attacked the wiring with great gusto! sm2 The only thing that doesn’t seem to work in the new instrument cluster is the seatbeat warning man, but he was an annoying lil bugger anyway.

If any of you guys (or gals) would like the old dash – it yours!

Chris the screen reflection is a bit of a problem over here - what's a flocked dash? (Sounds like that language topics code for something rude!)
That’s why most dashes in upside-down land have dashmats as Duvel has suggested, we do have one and it is nearly ready to go back in the car…we had is previously to cover up the old dash to make it look like not so much of an orphan.

Good job you have the dash mat for protection, I can imagine them being as hard to find as RHD amazon ones. Nice work on the swap, 'tis not the easiest job.

John - you cant still get the dash mats over here from Repco, available in black and grey for around $75 aussie dollars. Hubby did all of the removing and replacing, I hid whilst that was going on  ....I did the re-dyeing chose the charcoal grey as it's not so heat absorbing as black. Shame the mat is black, though I may still shout my daughter a new grey one for her birthday.
