Headlight power?

Post by jtbo » 16 Jan 2009 05:21 pm

I had to take HIDs off because of MOT soon, stupid law, limits amount of light you can have even with high beam it should not matter at all.

Then I felt that I really can't see a thing, so I took video of some sort, of course you can see less in video than you can in person. Still low/high beam difference is about the same on video as it is on person.

Part 1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SK1O6gzR5qc&fmt=6

Part 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-L3gCnpm4uQ&fmt=6

There is not much difference between high and low beam, also all light is right front of car, only tiny bit of light goes where one needs it most. I can't adjust them any higher, already it is too high for MOT (I usually turn them down from cockpit dial if other traffic is seen)

I really can't remember how it was with 360, but I think it had longer visibility at high beam, visibility with ZX lights limits to 100 meters or so, mostly because eye adapts to that very bright spot at front of car :?

Anyone has chance to take comparision video from 360?

Edit: links updated for better video

When I was younger I drove moped that had max speed of 70kph (40 was legal limit) , it's light was weaker than flashlight, now of course I drove at max speed all the time, even sometimes it was hard to see where road was, moon helped a lot

I'm not this crazy though ;)

I drove normal size moped, my cousin had pv 50 with 125cc engine that had seen some serious tuning, police clocked bit over 120kph for him once and that thing has those tiny wheels

Once got blackout and broken hand with three wheeled atv as when climbing up a hill it lost suddenly all power and I came down rolling together with atv, but that is pretty much only harm done, even flipping Moskvitch Elite to side when taking corner bit too much inside did not cause a scratch, can't say same from poor Elite

Quite normal for finns living countryside really  Or was before computers and gaming consoles.

Youre lucky man. Three wheeled atvs killed pretty much every other human that ever got aboard one.

Can still remember when we were bairns, mate lived up near Ullapool.Up we troop for some country living involving a Fiat 127 with 1050cc of throbbing power.
Idea-blat down dirt track and see who can get the most air /furthest off a canny yump.
All going very well 'til Herman the German loses it after the yump has a big tank slapper and stops by using a 5ft high boulder.
Much laughter by all 'til he steps out holding his head which is emitting claret at an alrming rate

Still he ain't dead so we crack on with the fun although visibilty reduced due to screen cracked, with a head shaped protrusion and bits of hair blowing in the wind

All going well 'til me pal's Dad arrives-freaks out and tell us we are on a public road with all that entails :(

"End of Rally", as Ari would say.

The current playsation generation don't know what they're missing

I have never ever touched to Playstation, but several times I have made contact to pine tree

Today's nannying society would probably throw one to mental hospital if one would do things we used to do as kids

That is snow storm + 100kph...

Oh yes, road was not cleaned from snow quite some time, but it was perfectly legal to drive 100kph there ;)

Warm weather today, -15C, so I spent 2 hours and installed (Not in garage, but outside) Bosch 225's, those might be passable at MOT, just need bit additional wiring so that ref won't go too high, our limit is 75 and if I have all lights connected it would be 150, which may lead to some unpleasant questions at MOT center...

I try to make comparison video today.
