In Finland, they don't bother plowing snow out from road if there is less than 15cm of it, 80kph limit:

You are correct, hit that high snow and car tries to go sideways instantly, max speed today in those conditions was 140kph, some bastard thought that he won't let me pass, what he did not know was that I'm bit crazy 140 started to be quite at the limit as car did 'float' quite badly on that speed.volvosneverdie wrote:Just because its an 80kph limit, that doesnt mean you have to drive that fast dude!

Mostly bit under 90kph cruising speed, I found lot of very slowly moving chicanes that I had to overtake, then I hear from radio that there was several accidents, one had 8 cars collided, maybe somewhere situation was even worse
At morning there was healthy snowfall, there was even more chicanes, at morning there were places where car did spin wheels even at 4th gear and half throttle, stopping was also nitemare, so I had to restrict my lead foot a bit and I did only 75-85 depending a bit of situation.
We used to have 100kph limit on those kind of roads during winter when I was kid, now only some parts of lapland have nice small roads with 100kph limits

Father used to have this with bit tuned engine (speedo was less than top speed) back when I was kid, with tires of 80's naturally:

Father did crash it of course, they did kickstart my pump at hospital, not a pretty story, those cars are not very safe, imo

Driving Ka 70Mph on dry tarmac road alone is crazy, but ice Madness
Even I tend to have bit heavy foot, I try to keep enough safety margins, however I'm not able to drive those over safe speeds goverment is trying to force, seriously there is hardly any weather where one needs to drive below these insanely low speed limits. I guess those are set so low that even that weakest of pack can drive, I can't see why he/she should.
Btw, left foot braking is at least bit fun with shitty FWD car, hanging tail out in every corner I miss RWD

i love snow. i soo need to go to finland! i went about 60mph in the clio round a mountain bend on snow in france it was pure i dunno how fwd cars work action lol luckily the drop was only a few hundred feet . did it in the volvo too last year, massive drop snow/ice and a very fast down mountain bend with no cars anywhere and my dad with me not being that botherd by it all. Think tokio drift only scary i miss RWD

Bad part with FWD is that sometimes, mostly without any difference in feedback, it just decides to go straight, left foot braking helps sometimes, but sometimes it just plows straight until it stops doing it, I have tried left foot braking, lifting off, clutch, loud pedal, jerking wheel and combinations of all those, but there is no effect, at least with RWD I can make tail step out every moment I prefer (winter conditions). But FWD is manageable and silly easy when staying within sane person's limits, too bad I'm not very sane person when it comes to speed
Handbrake I don't prefer testing at speeds of 80kph or more, front wheels don't turn enough

I had to write to authority responsible of cleaning roads from snow as that road is quite busy and such amount of snow really makes lane changing problematic, one has to be really careful when overtaking, inexperienced driver can very easily find himself from bottom of ditch when overtaking in those conditions as car will get loose, one have to know how to keep it under control when it goes loose, all dips and bumps on road jerk balance of car also, so all those require some input to keep car travelling to original direction, it is quite nice and exciting
Stupidest feeling I had was with this FWD frenchcrap at roundabout when it lost all grip and maneuverability under 30kph, all inputs just did nothing, stupid studless winter tires are to blame

its roughly 1.5-2 mile straight! 3 lanes wide and its perfect for blasting! i wish there was traffic lights on it:D

Brainless message is "follow your speed, don't pay attention to road", I just hate that very much, all instances ring that bell as horn of truth and nobody is making even subtle notes how situation speed and actual brain utilizing has much greater benefits in safety aspect, maybe it would require actually bit of trying and that is too much to ask.

Those were the days....I remember in the 70s my dad had a mk1 Escort van and as kids we all used to bundle in the back and roll around on the sofa cushions that he put in there. I remember once we had my gran and grandad in the back too and travelled on the motorway for a fair few miles, all rolling around! Safety wasn't a big thing then was it...
