Worked for Cuba ;)

It seems a stupid idea paying people so much to have their car scrapped. Terrible for the environment if people arn't doing much miles in them.

I am tempted though to drive an old banger to Germany with another on a trailer to get the cash :P

mmm, now there's an idea. and then spend some of the money being distinctly un-environmental by doing laps of the Nurburgring :D

Well you may as well do that en route with one of the cars before you scrap it. And if it breaks/gets damaged, stick it back on the trailer and continue :D

I see a plan forming

I see one small flaw in the plan. To cash in on the 2500 Euros you need to buy a Daewoo Matiz (or equivalent) ;-)

I don't know if there is point going there, they have only 340s with many miles and ready to be scrapped condition:

Tom, Matiz should sell quite well, right when we find those modern eco girls that will save the planet by getting car that is too small and generally bad for anything, of course if that is as hard as finding girls that are open to hear our suggestion normally, we are in deep trouble

Ah yes, Jos360 pointed that one out to me! More pics here:

Very odd combination for Germany, rear headrests (Hatch!), rear wash wipe and redline seats with blue door panels. It's some kind of special edition, possibly "Black Silver" but I'm not certain ...

Enjoy it while you can, until the xx billion of "Umweltprämie" are used up, don't expect to see many nice 300s for sale in Germany for quite a while :-(

I'm quite lucky, the missus is pretty tolerant ;-) But this "scrap your good car for 2500 grand" is really getting people twitchy here, I know of several people who going to go for it. Saving the planet is not the motive however, it's the feeling you're getting something for nothing. The same kind of effect you can notice when in the USA Wall Mart have a sale and people camp outside the shops and stampede all over each other to get a pair of Chinese-made underpants first.

Consuming mass hysteria that it is all about, failing logic of current economy must be kept alive at any cost, they are ready to make final leap for few euros, not thinking what it really will cause to enviroment when science will loose all creditability within eyes of average people

Oh, damn. A couple real treats found on the local car trading website, but unfortunately I can't afford either of them at the moment:

http://www.nettiauto.com/volvo/345/2378114
1981 345 GLS 2.0, already old-timer inspected and registered, spotless mk2 but asking 2700 euros

http://www.nettiauto.com/volvo/343/2383377
1979 343 DL automatic, also old-timer inspected and registered, no asking price but probably not going cheap as it's a damn nice mk1! Now if only I had a couple thousand euros just lying around without a purpose...

First one is really sweet car, 345 with B19A and in perfect condition, something you don't see everyday.

Unfortunately there are also these silly priced cars:

Well apparently one of our rather bright spark MP's bought up the fact that why should we get £2500 off a new car for scrapping an old one?

His reasons were that (due to this country now being as useful as a chocolate Tea pot) the UK now has no car manufacturers which are UK owned companys so we would just be boosting the economys of other country's the example given was Germany i.e VW, Audi, Merc, BMW etc you get the idea.

So tbh i don't think this country will be taking the EU up on this offer, but stranger things have happened

It won't take long until you can read big letters from Sun (do they actually have any small letters?) how that MP has been involved who knows what scandal, week after that he is out from picture and those 'right-minded' individuals are pushing new law trough system by brute force.

Maybe I have seen too many political thrillers, or real life

We must keep fingers crossed that such MP is not overruled by others and can actually shift direction of that big boat.

I can't see any offence nearby :?:

Except that if you buy a British-made car you are helping our economy. NMUK (Nissan) is not a Japanese company, it's a British one. It answers to Japanese management and depends on them for model allocation (deciding which plant to build which car at), but it's based in the UK, and pays the wages of British citizens, who spend their money in Britain.
The problem is that nobody buys homegrown anymore, they buy brands. BMWs are the same toss that we build at our place, but they have a more 'prestigious' image so are more attractive to w4nkers.
One of the reasons we have no car industry is that our homemade cars became unfashionable and short-sighted 4rsewipes bought foreign rubbish.
BTW, this only applies to the new car market, I am aware that my fleet consists of 1 yank, 4 swedes, and only one brit which I haven't collected yet.

What about Prodrive?

They bought Aston Martin from Ford and it is British company that is making cars (P2), only 49% is owned by Apax Partners, so 51% british, right?

Radical Sportscars is British company and making cars, right?

Ultima Sports, Noble, Caterham?

Ah, but none is big grey car producer, each do small amounts of very refined products, together they all are however quite considerable car industry.

Problem still is that those are not boring grey cars, certainly goverment can't give signal to people that they would support buying something that is fun and quick.

I personally will have serious problems if someone would offer me 2500 pounds from my 240 if there would be some 12K proper sports car to buy, like Caterham 7 Classic, it is not most powerful car out there, but 6.5sec 0-100kph is enough good for that price

However I must resists, such are plans of evil that they lure us to forget our old classics and slip to path of wasteful consuming, let's choir together, consuming is bad, consuming is bad
