Got myself another...
Got myself another...
Yep, After some scumbag wrote off my last 360GLT, i've finally managed to aquire another, 1984 silver glt for the measly sum of $150 au, it's a little worse for wear, needs both rear taillights, both bumpers, front right indicator and a few other bits and pieces before i can even think about roadworthy and rego, but it seems to run strong, and now that the wife has a car of her own, i can concentrate on making this thing fun, the last one i had to leave relatively standard for her to drive, pics to follow soon.

I've been slack, I promise to post pics tommorow.
I've done plenty of the mechanics side of things on the past 40 odd vehicles i've owned jtbo, i don't enjoy paying $88ph or more for other people to work on my stuff for me, i'd rather do it myself.
Initial plans for this seen as my wife now has her own car, after i get it roadworthy, (once a car is roadworthy here in vic, AU, you don't need to get onather unless you sell it or get pinged by the cops) custom front springs, only about 20-30 mm lower, but 2-3 times stiffer, $120au when i last priced them, maybe more now, fit the whiteline swaybar and delco shocks i have in the shed, find some mega stiff shocks to fit on the rear, i'm sure someone fitted rangy ones for cheap or buy some others to fit, maybe try to adapt a rear swaybar too, better front pads, reduce weight to as little as possible, limit stereo to a decent headunit with input for mp3, front splits and a sub (don't care what it sounds liek from anywhere but the drivers seat.) tint windows, get the engine to rev as much as possible on standard internals, ie, exhaust, intake mods and remove clutch fan ect. i may start some other threads to assit with this. talk soon.

Re: Got myself another...
Hmm, I think your engine is B200 with those thin conrods (I believe 86 upwards?). Keep that version under 7krpm, they tend to snap, I know one stock unit that throw conrod trough block after few hours of 3000-6500rpm (this was on race track, but not pushed 100% all times as one have to be tactical with pitstops and fuel/tires).
Also several reported failures of engines that run over 7krpm.
However I have never heard clear reason what causes this problem with high rpm's, it is just something to keep on mind on such engine.
With older B19 this problem does not exist and there are stronger conrods in some B200 engines used in 940 at least.
I like to do stuff myself too, but sometimes I'm bit lazy and still pay, like today, I had to wash Pontiac, it is not very small car, so I did went to local parts store that has washing service (no machine, but man powered) it did cost 12 euros, so I will not do it myself for that price However some other stuff I agree it well, I would not pay 60-70euros per hour for something simple like installing Megasquirt or swapping cam

Re: Got myself another...
The reason that revs kill rods is the greater acceleration (in velocity terms) when the piston slows near the top of the stroke. Rods are generally fine in compression, they tend to fail under tensile load, (i.e. when 'stretched').

Re: Got myself another...
Jani I think Dalahare's will be fine, because his car is a MK2. Yay you got yourself another 360. Sounds like you're going to be making it very very fun.
I should say that Rick gave up a whole afternoon to help some strange bloke from the UK get many A/C parts for Volvo 300s. The parts finally arrived a few weeks ago. Many many thanks for your help

Re: Got myself another...
You are probably right, I'm not sure if even late MkII cars had B200, but those carb versions had probably B19K instead of B19A.pettaw wrote:Jani I think Dalahare's will be fine, because his car is a MK2. Yay you got yourself another 360. Sounds like you're going to be making it very very fun.

Re: Got myself another...
Late model Carb version of a Mk2, was the good old B19A, with a Strom carb. Much better than the washy B200K with the Solex Cisac. Dalahare will have a B19E most likely though, cos all 300s in Aus are 360 GLTs of one sort or other.

MKII up to 84 GLT is B19E -> 118bhp
MKII up to 84 GLE is B19E -> 118bhp
MKII up to 84 GLS is B19A -> 95bhp
MKII after summer 84 -> B200 if im correct (could be end of 84 too)

Re: Got myself another...
Ah, but there are 84/85 versions with Solex Cisac and it is B19K, those are bit rare, but I know those exists as I have seen one which was told to be original, only 80k miles on it Way too rusty
I believe it was rest of B19's that they put in to clear wares or something

Re: Got myself another...
I've probably kept you guys waiting long enough, sorry been slack, i've got one pic and that's it.
That is it's best side, you can still see a few dents in the bodywork, all the other taillights ect are broken, and the are bumpers hanging off. the interior is pretty shabby, but that just gives me more eason to put it on a diet...
It is a b200.

Re: Got myself another...
Hmm, something is missing in that pic, let me think a biti
Oh yes, it is spotless, no rust at doors, I want your doors
Looks very nice, specially with those wheels, even there are few dents.

Re: Got myself another...
there's a tiny bit of rust on both back doors just below the window line near the front, can't make it out in that pic, rust isn't normally too big an issue expet for coastal cars down here, we've had less than 2mm of rain so far this year...
