Weirdest gear changing?
Weirdest gear changing?
My vote goes to Lada VFTS, it has normal H-pattern shifter on floor, but gear go like this:
2 4 1
3 5
I have no idea why anyone would make it so, but that way it is, oh and I think that reverse was not below 1st gear, if I remember correctly it was between 2 and 4 however can't remember that very well.
Anything out there that is even from darker corner of engineering mind?

Scmitar (sp) SE5 has a box slung quite far back, so the gearshift is at the same angle as the handbrake. Down passenger side for 1, up passenger for 2, etc

Re: Weirdest gear changing?
I've driven an old tractor with 3 forward and one reverse gears, and a high/low range selection. The funny thing is the order of the ratios. I think I've got it right...
From lowest ratio to highest:
1st gear - Low ratio
2nd gear - Low ratio
1st gear - High ratio
3rd gear - Low ratio
2nd gear - High ratio
3rd gear - High ratio
And selecting a gear when not stationary is hard enough as it is as there's no syncros
Edit: Thinking about it, I think I remember seeing a coach gearbox with a very similar layout to the one you mention Jani

Re: Weirdest gear changing?
Does anyone remember how it was in T-Ford? My memory fails a bit, but I think it was very different from how we are used today. Clutch in gearlever and throttle in steering column? Or was it brake in gear lever and clutch in steering column?
Re: Weirdest gear changing?
Old Mercedes van for me. Can't remember model number. Still feeling a bit fragile lol
Get rich or die tryin'!

Re: Weirdest gear changing?
Well to be fair, it's easier to imagine than me driving the 340 in the winter
I've tried a couple newer tractors but they're all electrical, complicated and too big, but my uncle has a tractor from the 60's that I drive very occasionally on his farm.
