spiritual successor to the 300?

Post by 5lab » 12 Jan 2005 01:20 am

Exclusive news from Detroit:
Volvo
11 January 2005

Volvo plans to introduce a new small car in 2006 to sit beneath the S40 in its range, and at the Detroit motor show it gave a brief on-screen preview of what the car will look like.

Part coupe and part hatchback, it will be badged C30 and use a shortened version of the Ford Focus/Volvo S40 platform. Volvo said it will accommodate a wide variety of petrol, diesel and dual-fuel engines.

No pictures were released but it draws heavily on the 3CC concept unveiled at Detroit, as well as on the SCC concept of four years ago.

Volvo is especially proud of the 3CC's crash protection structures considering its overall length - it is 200mm shorter than an S40. In a frontal accident the driver's seat, the front passenger seat, the steering column and parts of the instrument panel all move forward, while the electronic dampers adjust themselves according to the impact forces.

Some, if not all, of this is likely to appear on the production C30, although the 3CC's unusual two-plus-one interior - which leaves room for one adult or two small children in the rear - will not

the 3* is back!! i've always thought the v4* was a successor to the 400s, which volvo tried to differentiate from the 300s with a different numbering range..

I think that this car is based into consept that was completely designed by ladys?

Nothing wrong with that, just it may be little different in some aspects, maybe some are good and some bad.

It would be nice AWD or RWD, looks like it anyway. Too bad it is FWD, I have not learned to like from that :(

FIRSTLY I SHOULD POINT OUT THIS IS NOT AIMED AT ANY MEMBERS OR THER WIVES/GIRLFRIENDS AND IS ONLY MEANT IN FUN AND NO I AM NOT A SEXIST PIG REALLY (just ask the wife but only when shes finished the washing up )
oh god if its deaigned by women it wil have the following
Pedals to close together (coz of there little feet )
seat that dosnt go back far enough for tall people
No air bags (they have there own built in )
massive iilluminated nterior mirror for the safe appliance of makeup
huge glove box to carry all the crap they normally keep in there handbag
little hooks , sun glaases and cup holders everywhere
and massive rubber bump strips all round so they can park without damaging the car (sod anyone elses )
and a velcro covered rear parcel shelf so that all ther little teddies dont slide about.
its also bound to be automatic coz most women cant steer and change gear at the same time

lol

nagh the concept car was designed by a team made up of 80% women. this car is losely based on it, but i dont htink its 100% the same. it will be interesting if it has the 2+1 seating, which made the car more aerodynamic

as for rwd, volvos are about safety, and rwd is simply not safer!

I know, that stupid safety thing, blah ;)

New Citroen has flexible sidepanels so no problem at parking lot. I think it is stupid, soon car are made from flexible rubber and filled with safety foam, lol.

the beetle and newest smart are like that too.. the new golf is also quite clever cos you can just replace the 'skin' of hte panel, making repairs lots cheaper..

Front wheel drive is safer for idiots. Car slides, foot off throttle and it grips again. Rear wheel drive, car slides, driver panics, takes foot off throttle and turns the steering wheel too fast to control the back end = car spins. sm74

I don't like FWD at all and have no interest in modern fordvolvo's, (sorry!).

I'd like a x40 has a daily drive, but I don't think it would ever make a great performance car!

cheers
