Volvo 360GLE saloon combo!

Post by vØlvØfreak » 22 Feb 2009 02:50 pm

Hi everyone,
Maybe some people have seen some pictures of my car in a topic about a bodykit. But I think it’s now time to introduce myself proper.

My name is Mark, I live in The Netherlands, to be precise in Born, yes yes, the town where the Volvo 300 was produced! 8) Accentually my dad has worked 16 and a half year by Nedcar, from 1990 till 2006. So he has seen the last 340’s in the factory.
But enough about me, the cars:

The First 360:
The first one came in 1995. Dad bought it very cheap (850 GLD = 380 Euro) from a fellow. The clutch was broken, and his fellow was too lazy to repair it. It’s a grey 360 GLE, with an original Volvo sunroof, electric windows, Central locking, GLE alloys and wipers on the headlights.

Image

After 1 year the Volvo proofed his benefit. We were involved in a heavy accident. A brand new Ford escord (1996) brushed alongside the driversdoor. Result: The ford was total loss (the right front wheel sat sideways underneath it, even his frontwindow was smashed!), but the 360 was allowed to drive home by the police. Imagine this happened with the Opel B kadette, with we had before the 360.. And that with 3 little children in the back! So the bar in the door is now blessed sm11

Image

So the car was heavy damaged. But after all dad was (is) an mechanic, so he could repair it all by himself. After one year of hard labor, the car was finished.

Image

Image

In the main while dad stripped a 360GLE showcar (MK2), whith had been to the US carshows. The wife of another fellow had an accident, and the doors on the driver side were damaged. The GLT alloys are now used for the summer tires, and the originale GLE alloys are used for the winter tires. Furthermore a lot of stuff is now in our ‘stock’: 2-liter engine injection, airco(!) and a lot of small stuff.
Also the rear skirt of this car was used in our own 360, because there was some rust, due to an accident by the previous owner.

Image

Image
Scary! You can look through the car!

Image
Everything nice and new! The price cart is still on the plate between the backlights.

Image

Last but not least dad bought ‘the bodykit’ new in Belgium.
And this is the result:

Image

The second 360:
In the summer of 2007, my dad and I were at the local Volvodealer for some parts, when we meet a ex-fellow, who also has an 360GLE, a blue one. After a little chat he tells that his ‘baby’ is going to the scrap yard next year, because nobody wants his car. But dad is immediately interested, because he knows that the man still has covers over his head rest after 20 years, so they don’t get dirty! They agreed that the man would call in the spring..
Accidently in April, I would become 18 years!
In March he called, and on the first of April (no it’s not a joke!) the car came to us. The fellow had it very tough with this ‘lost’. Several photos were taken before dad could take the car..

Image

The car did get his MOT, but there are some points for this year. It is a little bit rusty on the bottem, and there is something wrong with the gear stick. But all these things will be repaired in the next few months. Now the car is sleeping in the garage for a while. But hopefully this summer it is ready, sow I can take it to the VROM in Sweden 
Both car’s in facts:
Grey 360GLE:
- 1985
- bodykit
- GLE: Central locking, electric windows in the front doors, fog lights in the front, headlight wipers
- slidingroof
- GLT alloys / GLE alloys
Blue 360GLE:
- 1987
- GLE: Central locking, electric windows in the front doors, fog lights in the front, headlight wipers
- Sunroof
- Electric mirros
- Power steering (very rare over hear!)
- GLE alloys

Things to do in the next time:
The blue car is ‘my car’, so there will be some extra’s added on it:
- Koni’s in the rear (still looking for front koni’s)
- New alloys (they come on both cars!)
Image
- Gauge panel with 2 gauges
- Spoiler on the boot
Image
- Bodykit (still looking for some parts)
- Snowcap
- Leather (still searching ..)
- Volvo 300 power window sticker (like the 300 power club sticker, but without the word 'club')

The grey car is from my dad, things that are going to be on that one:
- New alloys
- Hella grille
- Gauge panel with 2 gauges
- Snowcap, still searching..

Enough talking, some nice pictures:

It is first time as I see steering wheel like that  It is probably not standard steering wheel, something from options list perhaps?

It seems that you will need door seals too, those seem to fail quite easily and replacements are hard to come by :(

Oh and it is possible to get new Konis made, you just need to order 12 pairs, but you can ask from company that makes V360Cup cars and modifies front crossmembers for more negative camber, can't remember what that company was called now, but they did order those for V360Cup cars few years ago, of course it is possible to ask directly from Koni.

Some lucky bastards have found them from ebay too, but that is fairly impossible to me at least

Very nice work with cars, it is always nice to see new people here that will take good care of their cars even price of car is not very high :D

Indeed. Its always great seeing a car thats crashed and repaired where possible.
A lot of newer stuff is classed as 'written off' when the bumber breaks.
Great to see people keeping good cars alive.

That steering wheel  As fitted to my old 343 Junior! I've been looking for one of those for ages ...

Very nice thread! I bet your dad could tell a few interesting stories about his time at the Born factory too ...

300 for a pair or just one damper? Do they ship single pair nowdays?

Price of 300 euros for a pair would still be reasonable from front dampers, at least I would pay that :P

That was for a pair yes. I just read that somewhere on the V3C (dutch) forum...
If you (and others) are really interested, just sent koni an e-mail with the question, how many pairs you would have to order, and how much they will cost.
If the price is not to high, you can arrange something on V3M and V3C and maybe some drift / race-forums. I think there would be enough people who'd buy a pair.

I remember these in the bodykit section, I love your cars. I certainly think the blue one requires the bodykit ;) I'll try and hurry up with the required bits!

Why not just go and buy a whole car? See this post

Koni's for a 340 1.4 are different from those for a 340 1.7 and 360 2.0

I didn't know that also, but there was somebody who sold koni's on 'marktplaats.nl' and told me he had seen both of them, but had only the 340 1.4 version left..
