whats ti worth then.
whats ti worth then.
Right im end of my tether.
volvo 340.
3 door shell.
registered as a 1.8 with 2 seats!
no mot or tax.
rebuilt 1.8 16v F7P engine.
it has been driven arround 5 miles tops.
full stainless exhaust system from the manifold back. 2.5" with 4" can on the back.
new rear shocks.
custom dash.
all original seats are avalible
now doesnt like starting so probably a change the fly wheel and it works or find a better startermotor solution.
bad news:
white wing on passenger side doesnt fit nicely, and hole cut from inner wing that i havent welded yet ( only major rust i had to remove)
surface rust now in places.
brakes need to be changed, and hand brake main cable swapped as it no longer works ( new cables on the rear end)
lots of paperwork incluing dealer service history. and £1000's spent!
Would i be wrong to ask £1000 for it?

I don't see why you are having so much trouble though? - surely you've asked adam etc what they use, as far as I'm aware the two 16v 300's I've seen were fine... would I be out of line if I said that maybe you've not built the thing quite right...kaos wrote:i can keep it forever, but im sick of spending £30 here £30 there on starter motors that dont work, who knows i could change the flywheel to the spare i have and well it might carry on with the same problem! or it might not, but i think ive come to my tethers end!

No you wouldnt, But the thing has driven round the block with no problems. it has driven with no problems what so ever. untill now.Jason B wrote:I don't see why you are having so much trouble though? - surely you've asked adam etc what they use, as far as I'm aware the two 16v 300's I've seen were fine... would I be out of line if I said that maybe you've not built the thing quite right...kaos wrote:i can keep it forever, but im sick of spending £30 here £30 there on starter motors that dont work, who knows i could change the flywheel to the spare i have and well it might carry on with the same problem! or it might not, but i think ive come to my tethers end!
ive spoken to adam, woodoo etc, and it all points to wrong starter motors, and ive used volvo 1.7 ones i even went otu n brought a renault 19 one again to try, and well thats doing the same as everythign else, screaming away,
Ive had one chap suggest that its because the minute the starter motor is bolted on its engaged as there -2mm starters on a different set up to usual, i expect if i changed to the volvo flywheel, and volvo starter it would run fine. Its a lot of effort for something that might not even work.
If some one was to come and say ive got these starters you can try. and one work and continuously work with no problem, maybe i would be happy. but im getting sick of it, the car hasnt seen any decent driving since i took it of the road in may last year!
its taken me long enough, to get this far, and to be let down by this problem

Re: whats ti worth then.
Trust me i ensure you changing the flywheel wont help, unless yours is damage. The teeth count is identical on them. So either your flywheel is damaged or its wrong starter. Without being anywhere near trhe car i cant be any more help than that mate.
i told you what starters i run. You have to remember on a fresh built engine compression is high so you really need a strong battery and a decent starter. You tried a fully charged battery a known good starter and a jump start aswell?

Re: whats ti worth then.
fully chargerd battery on the volvo starter has worked fine. on its own, but after 2 start ups it will conk out.
Ive put pics up of the flywheel, and its fine, no teeth missing etc, ive got a chap willing to send me starter motors at cost price! which is great, but if they dont work i really am at my tethers end.
If i could say take it to a garage and them piss arround and that i'd be happy as feck! if they got it to stay working etc!

Re: whats ti worth then.
Have you tried additional ground to block, have you tried shimming starter?
If it does not spin, just is not turning engine, it could be brushes too, but more commonly electrical connections and bad / too low capasity ground cable. Of course it could be power cable trouble too.
My V8 starter tends to get bit hot under exhaust manifold so when hot it is barely turning even with new battery, also engine has more compression than original so that adds to it, but it starts still without problem.

jani,
this is from cold!
It has an additional engine earth 2 AWG!
i can try shimming the starter and its a simple cost for me to get done!
i mgiht look into a shim during the week.
