Re: Official V3M 300 Spotted Thread.
Did you ever find out what they were really called in the UK? "Black Beauty" is the "official" Dutch name, but maybe that special edition got some "UK spin" in the name, like Black Pudding or something (OK, that was bad ...)But not just any Ovlov, it's another Black Beauty!
I'm certain of the following anyway:
1978 343 DL special edition in black or silver with red interior
Black Beauty (NL)
Black Diamond (B)
Silver Star (F)
343 DL-C (D)
unnamed (A)
GB ??
Cheers

I did spot 340 from video at youtube, it was taking part to crash, however I think that if one is easily disturbed he should not watch close up after lorry rear ends it at 1:40

Re: Official V3M 300 Spotted Thread.
Well spotted but that that's sickening, suprised that footage got released to public. No car stands up to a truck crushing like that. Lucky the fuel tank didn't explode. Worst thing is not knowing the outcome.
At first I thought why did he stop, was it to look at whats happening? Then after watching again you realise that the traffic ahead had slowed and there's actually a car in front of the 300. It's the truck drivers fault as he failed to look ahead probably distracted. No doubt the first stoppage was caused by everyone slowing down to look too so fault lies with them to some extent too but hard to prove.
Even a roll cage maybe not help there much but who knows? More force maybe transmitted to car/truck ahead instead of crushing your car.
Lesson there for everyone, look in rear view mirror often to see whats happening behind, he could have dodged out of the way with luck. Also better to keep in outside lane away from getting between trucks.
I drove down the A1 last night in pretty heavy stop start traffic, just the type that causes shunts like that. (not in 300 but in colt) even less space beind and worst thing is Jack's in the back. I just hope no-one was in the back of that 300 on film clip. I always get him to sit in the front of the 300 if it's just me and him.
Thanks for the warning, sometimes Jack's (age 7) looking at stuff on here with me. Not what I want him to see.

I know there's not much left to go on, but I don't think it's a 300 series Volvo.jtbo wrote:I did spot 340 from video at youtube
The wheels look too big, back edge of bonnet looks wrong and door handle looks too high. I've been thinking hard, and I can't put my finger on what it is.
Re: Official V3M 300 Spotted Thread.
Real life is quite cruel at times, I always feel it is better know how reality is than closing eyes from how things are, but then again I have seen lot of bodies up close and it does not disturb me anymore, it is what happens, sad, cruel, horrible and real.
Leaving bit extra space between car at front can sometimes help too as there is at least possibility to aim between lanes if spotting enough early potential danger from behind, also not standing on brakes reduces a bit of g-forces.
Truth is however that all older and probably many new vehicles are not really well designed to withstand rear impacts, they can take hits from front but not even close to similar hits to rear, even side impacts are better than rear impacts in many cars.
Rear impacts has not been part of tests, not sure if they have added those at recent years, but those are something be aware of.
Oh yes, not knowing is bad, I did saw one video of russian car crash site, driver had steering wheel at his chest, but he was sitting at rear seat, emergency crew took him out there from rear door, guy was alive after crash and talking + moving, however he had probably too much internal damage or then they could not get him out in time, so sadly passed away, but there are always odd chances of living from really impossible looking situations, unlikely of course, but such too happens.
Life is incredible there that you can't predict it perfectly, there are always some chaos involved.
macplaxton, it has snow cap, wheels have hub caps those late versions round volvo logo at center, mirror looks very 300 like, also door bump strip is like in 300, imo. That is what made it to look 300 for my eye.
Edit: Hmm, but also seems not to have volvo logo at wing and indeed door handle looks like something french models had? Now I'm not sure, Escort maybe then?

Re: Official V3M 300 Spotted Thread.
Indeed not 300, amazing the powers of suggestion!!!
Wheel hub caps look really like 300's but wheel arches wrong and mirrors, and white stripe in wrong place! + all mentioned above.
Also chunky strip in wrong place and not chunky enough.
Hub cap symbol looks like vauxhall.
I think Mk1 Vauxhall Astra. (Could account for why there's little back end left). Would have hoped a 300 would fare a little better than that, although nothing argues with 35+ tonnes at 55 mph (except another 35+ tonnes)

Re: Official V3M 300 Spotted Thread.
Last night on the M42 I spotted a beautiful red '86 model which was travelling in front of me between junctions 6 and 7. Unfortunately I lost it at junction 7, as it headed onto the M6 north and I had to go on the M6 south.
I knew I recognised it though, as it was for sale a few months ago:

Long time since the last real spot on this thread! I saw one late the other night parked in Doncaster town centre (5 door met grey G reg). It's 1 of only 2 local ones that regularly see apart from those in the family!

Spotted before Xmas in Birmingham (pump island) is a slightly stickered 340. Saw this about 5 years ago but it's still going and seems to have acquired more

Yeah I've seen that one around. Hilarious stickering. Makes it unique though!

Re: Official V3M 300 Spotted Thread.
Spotted at about 10.50am yesterday (02-01-13) a 'FoggySilver'/Jewish Racing Gold/Beige coloured Mk3 340 (might have been a 360; too far away to see if there were fog light holes or coded bumpers) on the southbound on-slip at jnc42 of the M6 at Carlisle.
