Retro computer games/consoles

Post by magnumpi » 29 Apr 2009 07:42 pm

Just thought i'd start this thread as from my own doing i've technicaly spamed my own car thread so guessed it would be best to start its own thread as people seemed to be interested in retro gaming.

Chris C, you asked does the Nes have Duck Hunt and laser gun, sadly not, but here is a list of the games it did come with:

Nintendo Advantage Joystick

1/Metroid
2/Pinball
3/Jack Nicklaus Golf
4/Solomons Key
5/Balloon Fight
6/Super Mario 3
7/Super Mario Bros
8/Ice Climber
9/Excitebike
10/Donkey Kong
11/Zelda
12/Zelda II The Adventures of Link
13/Solstice
14/Track and Field II
15/Duck Tales

Just so happened to be in a Game shop today on the off chance they had retro stuff as they usualy don't, but this one did, and they had Zelda 1+2 both up for £25 each  Can't say they are really worth that, but thats what they were priced at.

I'll be hanging onto the Nes for a bit, but got these few Megadrive games and no Megadrive to play it on so any one interested?

1/FIFA Soccer 95, game only no instructions/box
2/Disney Aladdin, boxed and complete
3/Road Rash- Box and insructions only NO GAME Sadly
4/Jurassic Park " "

Also in the box was the Snes with 2 pads and 3 games:

1/Jungle strike
2/Humans- like Lemmings but with cavemen
3/Super Star Wars, return of the Jedi, boxed and with instructions
4/Doom box and instructios, but again no game :?

Atari, one pad, and one joystick, only one game Galaxian, but a whole host of posters/games available things and original advertising stuff for it.

In my own collection i have a Dreamcast aswell, 2 controllers, rumble packs 5 games- £25 from Game, and games are still available from £1.99 so super value, but go up to £25 probably more, but thats the most i've seen them at.

Not retro, but obligatory XBox360, who's online and likes racing games? i'm ratcatha if anyone wants to add me?

Some good games on the NES :D

I wasn't all that consoley when old school was about, but had an Amstrad CPC464 (some hardware tweaks, I remember trying to make my own lightpen out of a biro... worked quite well too), then Amiga 1200 (that got modded, electronics geekery started bigtime there), then:

N64, Dreamcast (with lightgun), Gamecube and last 18months I've been pimping the oldschool xbox as XBMC is the worlds most useful program ever, xbox also has a lightgun with NES, SNES, Master system and megadrive emulators.

Kate has a NES with duckhunt and SNES with the uberepic superbazooka which is still the best one in my mind. I have a thing for light guns

Give me a shout if you want rid of the NES, I might be tempted.

My first was something wihte called MSX (thing with those large modules containing games), I was very surpirsed we got any of such high tech as we did not always have warm meal because money was tight. Anyway around 1989 I got Amiga 500.
My brother had got long time ago c64 (we did live in different places), my cousin got VIC20 when it was new stuff, I always played game with night road and yellow car, was it called Drive?

When I saw my brother we did play Pole position, Commando and Pit stop(?) with c64, also many other games that I don't remember.

Test Drive, 4D sports driving were of course games I did play with amiga. However limitations of those games always did bore me, I did try to change them, but my trial and error did not really worked. Hunter was perhaps one of the best games, you could fly with helicopter, drive car, boat, ride bicycle, there were lot of weapons and possibilities, also it was 3D that was weird new thing back then.

However only when I did get my first PC at 1995, then I started to really be interested from games as there started to be bit more possibilities, my machine was lame 386SX 16Mhz version, but I did play Doom with it, of course then started upgrading of computer which still has not seen end

However mostly my gaming was with PC and car games, first Need for Speed (that was only bareable version of series), SCGT which I modify cars and installed new ones, Vette, GPL, EA F1 games where also I put new cars in as I did not like a lot from F1 cars.
It is quite hard to remember all those game names from what I used to play back then. But then I found Live For Speed (can't remember 2001 or 2002?) and it did make other car games pretty much useless at once, sure after that there came rFactor and it is ok(ish) too. However haven't had time for these for long time now, when I have tiny little moment I just launch OFP or ARMA and shoot sitting ducks I place with editor

I have Wii, which I did use last time at Christmas when visiting my brother, games for it are fun (I play mostly those games in Wii sports), but I actually lack of good place to play it at the moment and it is not actually retro.

OOh yes the Amstad CPC464, i still have one of those in the loft aswell colourscreen aswell, made the most vile noise when loading up the tapes, would take like 15-20mins then you'd get syntax error :?

If i sell the Nes i'll keep you guys in mind.

Annoyingly i had a Snes when they were new, with the bazooker, Mario World, F-Zero, Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Country, Adams family and loads of others which i forget, all in minty fresh boxes, i lent it to a mate then fell out with him and never got it back so having to start the collection all over again.

For Arcade games (those things with coin slot) there is of course the MAME:
http://mamedev.org/

Good source of emulators and info is this:
http://www.emulator-zone.com/

I know only CCS64 (computer emulators section) and WinUAE (Amiga section).

It is quite hard to mess up anything with those, ROM file is something you need to get somehow that is hardest part, but rest should be relatively simple, well more or less
