Other than the turning circle, what else is 'not so good' dude?

I think I should probably check now, before I buy one on impulse.
Parking is lot harder, it is wider and a lot longer than 340, so spot where 340 fits perfectly is impossible for that one. Then of course fuel consumption is not very low.

It has good things too, but you should know that it has not much same with 340 except Volvo badge and some interior switches

It is a ship, quite good one actually.

Rust is of course one, it has thicker sheet metal than 300 so it takes longer until there are holes, but also many of those are older, paint is also better so even rust is a problem it is problem of older cars than with 300, usually also you can't really say if it is rusty or not by looking from top, underneath is totally different.

In city you can have something less than 15MPG if booting hard and still no go at all, much better if cruising gently.

Brakes are lot like in tractor, same with clutch, also models without power steering are quite heavy to steer.

More space and more room in engine bay are plus side, you can fit large turbo there

Cheers dude.
Good food-for-thought.

All my driving is city driving.
And all my parking is in tight spaces.
And I was hoping for a little more zoom from the big lump.
This should all put me off.
Not sure it is though.

It does weight good 200-300kg more than a 300, depending from models, that makes quite difference in performance, 2.0 carb engine is not a rocket in 300, in 240 it won't be any better. I would imagine that 2.3 unit in 240 is quite close in performance when compared to 300 with 2.0.

With my 360 2.0 with K-cam and Megasquirt, I had same performance as 240 stock turbo, acceleration in 0.1 second range with turbo. Turbo was with 155hp if I recall correctly.

It does look indeed quite bad with your typical use and disadvantages, but also remember that 240 has lot better turning radius than any modern car, specially those of similar size.

Yeah, there are two 242's in 5000 euros range at the moment, sure those are rare, but should not be that rare

Also our steering wheel was installed to wrong side of car for some odd reason

Might work if you are hillybilly from southern US

Yes, I have never understood why someone would like to make pickup from perfectly good passenger car, it just does not fit, it is hard to get any practical size bed (thing where stuff goes, eh?) to italso body strength will come to an issue and it will not have decent payload. Some people might like appearances, but I believe we need to go overseas and to south to find more than exceptions.

To carry stuff, separate frame under body is needed to carry the load and motor with enough torque to keep thing moving even with loaded, so it needs 6 cyls, preferrably 8

Some may still like it as it does not look too badly done

The body strength has not been a problem as there is added steel frame work under the bed to replace stregth of the roof. Ofical payload would be quite poor but it will carry and pull a lot of weight with the 2.1 injection engine. The bed size is a bit small and has always been a draw back of teh car. A nice 960 lump would be nice :D

An ideal base would have been a 240 transfer as they have a long wheel base would would give a nice big bed. Payload would probably still be low.

The pickup is due a rebuild over the next few years with some improvments. Main things will be using newer GLT running gear and an alu plate bed to replace the wooden one.
