Got a 340 1.4 ltr F reg and had a few problems to fix:

bad starting - just replaced starter motor - problem silved.

Cant get rid of petrol smell in car. So far have replaced the perishe cloth covered fuel hose into the fuel pump and the 10mm int diameter fuel hose from the petrol tank. Still a bloody smell wife starting to give me grief. so at random started to remove trim and cover plate in boot .
What sort of a retarded designer would put an expansion tank and the variuos hose inside the boot in a hatchback????

But it has turned out to be one of the hoses from the petrol float unit to the pump (standing at he boot its the one on the left hand side , cloth cladding very damp. ) Now to go out and replace the hose connector but it is very restricted in space so here goes to fix it.

PS have a defective keyboard so I am not dyslexic or write scripts for Allo Allo!

Solved the restricted access bit by unclipping the fuel pipes to get sufficient slack to access the ends.

So heres hoping that the aroma of petrol is gone :)

Nice one mate :D 300's are all old enough that the fuel lines are knackered, well worth checking or just buying a few meters of FI and getting involved with it.

Replaced all defective and worn fuel pipe connections and piping. Located perished engine bulkhead grommet (large) and replaced all I have to do now is adjust clutch but thats a job for tomorrow. :D Otherwise the car is all fixed up.

Really disappointed though the car is not what I thought it would be to drive , but maybe thats just because I have spent 2 days working on it cleaning and fault finding and fixing. sm49

Hopefully feel more positive tomorrow. sm48

It is annoying the 340 calls out for being improved , an ideal hobby car but its just so much of a dog in standard setup up really torn over this one. :?:

As a 480 enthusiast I have tons of 480 spares lying around and am tempted to start seeing what is comptible and sorting up the 340 but I really wanted a rliable daily driver damn why do all the major decisions in life prove so difficult .

Hang on... there's an extra fuel tank on the 340?! Or is an expansion tank something else?

spent best part of today stripping out all the cloth upholstery and putting it in for a wash. Gee it was manky

car now not only running better but looking good to although did discover on friday that one of the previous owners was an a*sehole who managed to strip 2 of the 3 carburetor/air filter casing screws and must have been the same diddy who vented the t piece breather direct atmosphere instead of feeding back to carb.

Still tomorrow refitting upholstery and painting over antirust paint and fitting upgraded central console to car. This car is fun

Despite the car growing on me the wife has been implacably against it from the first time she got in it!!
Thought I could win her round to my way of thinking but to no avail the lady was not for turning sm2
So had to sell the car before I got to fond of it that i would rather sell the wife.

So thanks for all the help folks , but I wont be returning to the world of 300s unless I get an offer I cant refuse for the wife (£90 million transfer fee  then it would be :360: 340pw :340: sm4 sm4 sm48 sm9 sm77

regards jim (maybe I should phone Real Madrid?)
