V3M Wiki

Just wanted to mention this as I came across it on another car forum and it reminded me that we should get it going on 300 mania! Don't know if this is something that Aymat has thought of already but it'd certainly be useful, especially for new members!

Should be dead easy to install onto the server and populate with information

I started one for F7P/R conversions, on a really tacky looking free wiki provider. If anyone who has a bit more patience was to start something that was a bit more professional, then it would probably be best to port all the information on http://volvo340.wikispaces.com/ to a nicer looking, more pro wiki. Which is about EVERYTHING volvo 340/360, rather than just engine swaps.

Innit.

Definitely worth porting that across Tommy - very useful information and not prominent enough on this forum, would help alot of people out I reckon doing the 16v conversion.

Media Wiki looks like the one to use though... and it's free!

Updates with a bit more info about swapping over sumps. I'm learning as I go along so progress is slow!

I've played with MediaWiki a fair bit...we run it on our server at work as an internal 'knowledge base'. It needs a web server (Apache, typically) and PHP to be installed to work. I don't think access to either of those will be a problem  Happy to be of assistance...if I can be!

cheers

Bah easy enough... I may have a play around given a spare moment. You can run WAMP or MAMP for mac users to emulate a server for easy testing and then port it over to the V3M serverz

This would be great, I mentioned we should have a Wiki in the thread about a FAQ section. A wiki woould be alot more user friendly

Yep, it's something that even when in place, will take some time to fill up and mature.

The problem with technical info on a forum is that it can disappear, or at least be difficult to find. Whether it be tucked away nicely in thread that's gone way OT or rarely accessed and fallen way down a list. Also in some forum search facilities you need more than 4 letters in a word to be picked up, so search for "oil" draws a blank or a common word will throw up too many hits. Correct spelling too is something that can hinder a search. At least with a wiki anyone could post something up and be encouraged to do so as someone else could come along later and tidy the article up and/or correct it. Debatable points could be discussed.

The main problem here is whilst there are 10 people with keys to the shed, we have only one absent landlord with keys to the house.

That aside, the two would work together well with banter taking place here and the technical info being stored in the library for easy retrieval.

There's generally one chance per year... that's when some of us decide enough is enough and drive to Belgium to find him
