My 340 GL - Bumper colour

Post by tommysb » 13 Jul 2009 04:40 pm

Right,

I've started fixing the bodywork on my 340. (I'll get some photos up later, I now have access to a Camera!) In order to respray the arches where the previous owner had knocked them, I had to remove the front bumper. (rather than masking it) Now it's off, I decided I might as well paint it.

The car is a dark grey (same as Adams I think) 3dr. I'm either going to paint the bumpers black, or colour match them to the rest of the car. Opinions please.

Once youve tried it, i have heard theres no going back.
So my vote goes to the dark side.

Some pics of repairs to the wheelarches where the previous owner had misjudged the size of some gaps. The process was: Remove paint, fill, sand, rust treatment, sand, prime. And still to come: Sand, paint.

I'd be interested to see it with colour coded bumpers as it's something i've been considering :)

Well look at my car then...... lol

The problem with painting the bumpers is that the 360 Factory painted bumpers are a harder plastic and are not textured.

Black it is then!

A couple more pics of the respray in progress. Had to order some Volvo paint, from Sweden. The can was only 150ml! so used that up today, rang the dealership to order more, and was told 'they've discontinued that colour'. They did manage to find it in the end, again, in Sweden.

Got the engine hanging by a crane, half in the engine bay, (of the 'test bed' car) just got past the 'hard' part of manouvering the bellhousing clear of everything. Then realised it needs to come out again to put a spigot bearing in (Doh!), and mess around with engine/alternator mountings.

Still need to sort out a higher pressure fuel feed, and exhaust, (I have a welder now) and wiring, and anything else I've missed. Also in the process of working out how to get RX-7 Callipers to fit, which is providing me with a lot of head scratching, but nearly there.

PS-I can bring the wings from my 'donor' car to Retrorides if you like? (I should have just used them myself rather than repairing the wheelarches!)
