knocking engine... ford ka

Post by pyro » 16 Jul 2009 06:28 pm

right then, dont ask why i have a ka sat on my drive. i already hate it as ive just dropped a new engine in it for a mate, but the new engine is knocking like a (insert comment here), its also got a very poor, uneven idle, and it back fires through the inlet...
ive checked valve timing, and its spot on (could it be an entire rotation out?!)
ideas as to why its doing this are welcome,

ive checked
valve timing
chain and tensioner
tappets - and adjusted
1.3i 8v

ignition is fixed by ecu, there is no dizzy to turn etc. im just hoping its not piston rings as thats what we swapped the engine for! tho its not using oil or smoking at all, it does move under its own power ok, (tho its lacking, dont know if that cos im used to the volvo again!)

ideas welcome and asap please cos im embarassed to ahve it on my drive way

Ben

I used to have one, great cheap cars tbh. Check your spark plugs are in m8, the simplest problems are often the most common. Also the ECU has been known to be very shit on these cars, you may have to replace that.

Did you get the engine from a known good source?

matey says he knew the scrapy dealer, but i duno.

think ive found the problem, a stuck pushrod and no compression on number 2 cylinder. going to see if i can free it up tomorrow, i have a spare head and cam if needs be tho id rather not go there!
im pretty sure that the push rod that is stuck is the inlet, which might explain the lack of compression on 2.
