242GTX

Post by Fuse » 05 Aug 2009 12:46 pm

Wow. A member of this Finnish Volvo Forum http://www.volvolandia.com came across with this 242 GTX with 16V R-Sport engine. He bought the car. That's quite amazing find it self but what's a nice touch is that it's the same car as in these magazine articles from the 80's!

Unfortunately time has not done any favors for the car and it's in quite a bad shape nowadays but the guy who bought it is going to do a full restoration to get the car back in the original shape. 8)

Car as it is now.. surprisingly little rust even though everything else is in bad shape.

That is really great news, it is amazing that car was not crushed already, like too many rare old cars are nowdays

Hopefully project will be a success, it will be huge amount of work to make it restored, but surely work is worth the trouble :D

this is why we owe it to ourselves to keep these old volvos on the road and running. Not just the high-spec and rare ones tho. A friend of mine is the editor of Octane Magazine these days. A while back he was searching for a MKIII Escort to run a buyers guide/feature on. He found plenty of restored and rebuilt RS Turbo's, RS1600's and XR3's - but could he find a base-spec model? No.....

As with a lot of rare Volvo's i never knew these existed, quality bit of kit but i still prfer the later/UK spec lights (whichever we have), these just look too clumsy = fugly front end.

Loving the retro bucket seats. 8) I'd say it's in pretty good shape underneath for the age of it and if it's been sitting for a long time, much better than the equivalent aged UK cars.

That engine option alone did cost almost same as house back then, those lights and stuff were not too cheap either, maybe at that time house appliances would been around same cost
