Anjo goes 343! the daily project
a 1980 343 DL to be exact!
my trusty old red 340 CVT is slowly eaten away by the rustdemon, not too hard to fix if you think of it, but along with the dents and additional holes it will cost a load of bodywork and a new paintjob to restore, the car to me just isn't worth all the time, money and efford needed for that so that's why i decided to give up on it and look for a really neat older car for my fathers daily use (3 times a week 6miles on 40mph roads).
so here it is, the 343DL!. i've worked on a lot of 343 and 345's and somehow, the oldskool nose always puts a smile on my face. the car was imported from Belgium in 2005 and since 2008 owned by pistonpen paultje, known on here too. allways parked indoors and the body shows that, it's very solid!
it will turn into a project because i am gonna change a lot about it; all the suspension/drivetrain/engine parts from the 340 will be completely refurbished and repainted / powdercoated like it's brandnew. engine will become a fully converted b14.4e (incl renix, front engine mounts, manifolds + downpipe, carb) i am planning to convert it to new style b14 cooling system but that's one thing that's not 100% sure yet.
besides a completely new undercarriage the exterior will be slightly pimped, he's allready rolling on the very cool 14" leo's (will be refurbished + powdercoated too) and has mudflaps. besides that i'll put a DLS/GLS bonnet (bumpy bonnet ) on it, and the rear spoiler made for this bootlid. allready have a rear window louvre to fit this window too. a frontspoiler for this model is hard to get but i am planning to search for one.
on the interior its very blueeeee but with this black dash a full leather interior, a black floorcarpet, black leather doorcards and a black leather luisi sports steering wheel incl R-sport hub will be a true pimp and a really good interior match.
some more pics of the beauty:
oh yes, one small thing to sort before i start driving it
blown headgasket this B14.1E will need Euro 98 + lead additive, i have a B14.4E cylinder head lying around so while i'm at it i am planning to swap the entire head wich will make it able to run on normal 95 unleaded. just have to look into some documentation first since they messed around with the compression ratio on the early models...

Re: Anjo goes 343! the daily project
cheers guys
just completed a small search in the books, only differenze in sizing is that the B14.1E head has a 9,5:1CR vs the 9,25:1 of the B14.4E, small difference that doesn;t matter, i do know that the ports are slightly different but that should give a slight improvement since i'm placing the .4E head.
big plus is the hardened valve seats of the B14.4E giving the advantage of running on unleaded. it has been tweeked for 98 + lead additive atm giving the fuel a rough octane level of 100. might have to adjust the ignition timing slightly to keep the engine running properly on 95 unleaded but that will be a 10min fix. all by all it should be ready to drive in a week or 2, i'm a little short on time atm
i did notice that the clutch is engaged at a way too high rpm and there is play on the selector leaver, so i have a few things to do allready

Re: Anjo goes 343! the daily project
here you are Tom:
what 3 litres of diesel, a few brushes and a special pneumatic airtool can do:
result of diesel + brush (difference left - right)
and after some more diesel and a go with the pneumatic tool:
the pneumatic airtool is a rotating cutter, it was equipped with a special brush for aluminium. this makes it get all the dirt off the aluminium, without damaging/scratching it! came in very handy actually
i did had a little trouble at the pushrod end of the head, the handheld tool flew off the head a few times. this evening i'll span it into the milling machine and redo the magic brush work. it will be a better result if head + brush are firmly in place (and X and Y movement is more accurate without Z movement interfearrence!!!)
all that's left now after this is a few hours of time, a headgasket, a manifold gasket, a waterpump gasket and a manifold>exhaust gasket to get the 343 back on the road! (for now )

Im pretty sure 'Anjo' is actually Dutch for 'Clean' now.
Nothing he owns has any dirt left after about one week of ownership.

Re: Anjo goes 343! the daily project
haha, allready noticed a few guys at v3c not happy with the fact i'm not keeping it totally original.
but, like the 340Turbo; this is also a car that i'm never intending to sell, so why not make the car totally to my taste, needs and standards and have it the way i want it to be, it's the end result that counts
unfortunatly for the car i haven't worked on it any further, the 340 turbo needs some work first and my spare time is a bit gone atm
but, the project will go fast once i get going

Hm, if it was a 1976 car, chassis number 000009 or something, than I'd agree. But your modifications are very subtle, you're not exactly "ruining a historic car" herevolvodspec wrote:haha, allready noticed a few guys at v3c not happy with the fact i'm not keeping it totally original.
