Snowplow!!!

Post by bodejodel » 07 Mar 2005 01:41 am

After a couple of days of heavy snowfall here in Holland... (actually quite rare... usually it rains in the winter)
I could not resist the temptation of one of the many empty parking lots covered by a layer of virgin-ish snow...

View the movie here...
Make sure you have got the latest Quicktime installed...

Drifting Movie
That was some great :360: fun!!!
(You can hear the great roar of my home made exhaust system... sm11 )

That pipe is quite simple to make.

All you need is:
The front piece of the original rear silencer.
A piece of +/-75 mm or 3 inch pipe. (I made mine of a 76 mm stainless steel table support   )
Some chicken-wire
Glass based insulating (Rockwool for example)

Weld a piece of sheet metal with a hole in it (size of the original piece of pipe) on to the 3 inch tube.
Make a small cilinder of the chicken wire aprox 2 inches in diameter.
Roll some of the insulating around it.
Insert the chicken-wire and insulating in tot the tube and secure it inside the pipe. (I just put a big screw right trough it just for testing and it still holds 8) )
Connect the piece or original exhaust with the new part. (welding... or more screws  ) Make sure it fits underneath your car.
Weld some mounting points on tot the new exhaust to connect it with the car.

START YOUR ENGINE

I spend about € 20,- and it sounds quite professional.
I will be improving it a bit in future but I am quite happy now! :360:

Does the video work for anyone else? :(

I downloaded it and it won't play in RealPlayer, Windows Media player or Quicktime. They're all fairly recent but I got the lastet Real Player again which states it works for MPEG 4's and it wouldn't play it. I got an error "Cannot start playback"

Could you upload the vide in a differrent format, perhaps .mpg, it sounds really good. :D

If you install the latest Quicktime it will work. Olderversi0ons won't.
In Mpeg it will be 33 Meg. That's big-ish...

Haha...with the codecs I have installed, winamp would play only the audio, while QT would play only the video...so I just hit play on both at the same time... :)

cheers

Well I got the latest QuickTime and it works :) You have to install iTunes at the same time though so I've since uninstalled that, and it still works fine. It also works in RealPlayer now which is good.

Nice film by the way, but did the hazzard lights need to be on? If only we had some snow here, but living on a hill means downhill to the nearest car park, and I wouldn't want to crash on the way :(

The hazzard lights were on to add some light effects... 8)
I forgot to turn on my high beams...
This was my first set of donuts with a RWD car and it seems like there will be more...
Now all I need is some more snow...
Dont want to waste my tires.

I refuse installing quictime, but with quicktime alternative I saw video, only sound I'm missing :(

I use free codecs mostly, Xvid, Ogg and so on.

It looks quite slippery there, you have summer tires on? ;)

Quicktime is big heavy program that installs nobody knows what. It is just me, being paranoid again ;)

We have these spikes in our tires, unfortainly from my tyres those have snapped or falled off mostly so grip is almost the same, clear ice on roads someplaces makes driving quite challenging

Sounds quite paranoid indeed... sm75
Spike tires are forbidden in Holland... And they should be  They spoil all the snowfun (snow is quite rare, it mostly rains) here in Holland!

I think Jtbo meant studded tires. You cannot drive with real spike tires on the public roads in here either. :P

http://www.rengasjeppe.fi/img19.gif Studded tire
http://www.rallynotes.com/main_icetires.jpg Spike tires meant for ice racing

Then again I might be wrong because I don't know if studded tire means same as spike tire in there. In Finnish spike tire is diffrent than studded tire. :P
