First 340 now getting 1.8 16v swap!

Post by tomsdubwerks » 15 Dec 2009 01:37 am

Hi guys and girls... My names Tom and I'm from sunny Skeggy. Hopefully picking up my first Volvo this week after my VW Lupo was hit by an un-insured driver.... seeing as it could go on for months trying to get anything for it I thought I'd try something a little different and I have bought a 1989 340 DL 3 door hatch! Can't wait! My mate also just got a 1987 740! We got to be the only 2 under 25's in skeg with Volvos! Will post pics when I've fetched her.

My other project is this old girl! Its slowly getting restored and getting fitted with a 1.4 16v on ITB's! (even slower now my Lupo's dead!)

Hi mate and welcome.
Is that a mk1 golf or a polo derby?
I had one once.It was pretty basic inside but the engine was something else.
You could drive it up an extreamly steep hill in forth gear.
Cheers Mark. sm4

Lol can't wait for proper RWD-ness again... not that my Triumph Herald or Moggie ever supplied the RWD fun factor. Used to drive my Dad's old Manta, Kaddett, RS2000 and 1500 GT engined Anglia and they were fun! Plus a few turds in the fields when we were kids! In fact last time I got sideways (excluding being pushed sideways by the Subaru in the Lupo) was in a 1970 Fiat 500 my Dad just bought!

Gotta love the mk1 Polo... its like the german Mini! In fact I prefer it to any of the many Minis I've had! :D

Thats a cracking 340 you've bought there mate! Excellent reg plate too haha!

I haven't seen your MK1 on ClubPolo by any chance have I? I'm on there as before this 340 I own now I had a MK2 breadvan. Your mk1 looks awsome, the polished teardrops are a very nice touch!

Congrats on your new car! It's been here before, but it's owner lost interest fairly quickly after spraying the bonnet black :?

Yep another case of the bored drifter boy with too much money. I recommended he didn't spray and strip it but there you go. You could always get it colourmatched or get original paint to restore it

Hello mate welcome to the forum

Looks tidy that on the G60 rimmage, what are they 14's or 15's, just need to remove the arch gap a bit now.

But hey i can talk i've still not lowered the back of mine yet, but quite like the stance as it is :D
