Use lock defrost stuff to lock and latch at end of door that hold door shut, I guess there is better word for it but maybe you get it from this rather poor description?

Oh yes, use lock defrost that is spray, other types seem to have less or slower effect.

Use it a lot, my door issues required two cans of defrosting stuff to make door work, then weekly spray with gunoil keeps them working perfectly even in our rather chilling conditions.

edit: plastic bag filled with hot water helps with petrol cap, but that seem to have little to no use for car doors. Hairdryer is one thing that also works, have done that few times too...

I've held the key in a match/lighter flame and put it the lock a few times, sucked the key (don't try in colder than UK temps. or you'll have more than a frozen lock! ), and blown in to keyhole before!!

Me too today... it's due to the lock barrels not being greased for 20+ years. I've been undoing the boot (that is greased) and climing through to pull the door pins, it'll open fine then!

Fake's under 3" of snow here (Watford) I've a picture on the phone. Have just rescue'd her to my aunts drive... everyone is failing at the hill next to us and using our road as a cut through, she was looking scared on the road!

I'll join the "i got frozen out of my car today" group aswell.

Went to pop out and the key would go in but wouldn't turn at all. So i tried the old hold a lighter to it trick which didn't work, well it loosen it but still wouldn't unlock. So i boiled the kettle put an inch or so of boiling water in a mug and dipped my keys in for 20secs or so, put it in the lock and hey presto :D

Wouldn't fancy it if i wasn't at home though, as the passenger side was solid too, so maybe i would have had to do a Chris as well and gain access from the rear end

haha happened to me too. Just boiled the kettle and poured half of it on my locks, metal would have heated through and melted the ice within. Then I went for a cheeky drift round the block. Bit too icy for my liking though :D

I've had to climb in through the boot before at 3am after work. My dad recommended p***ing on the lock in future! May do that one day :)

I honestly am puzzled what good hand warm liquid might do to frozen door.

Door has quite lot of mass, metal is rather good heat conductor, so small amount of such liquid would probably just froze it even more as one can apply only so little amount of lliquid at given time, there will be no mass at all in liquid and thus no melting effect (unless one has serious organ malfunction that results strong acid being produced instead of urine).

Also pouring water to door will have rather similar effect, it just does not smell as bad (hopefully), so idea to urine into plastic bag is much better, keep your urine in a bag against lock for some time and as it has some mass there actually can happen heat transfer towards lock and there is at least slight chance of success.

Still near boiling water is much better method as it will contain tons more of energy compared to your urine in a bag

Agreed.
But you seem to be ignoring one important scientific factor.

Fun.

It would be even more interesting if you froze your bell-end to the car door. Explain that to the fire brigade...
