Re: Retro Rides
Well done Chris and VND, sticking up for the V300
It's always the same, people drive a 25 year old car with knackered shocks, steering and brakes and then put the car down as a piece of crap... I don't get why people keep saying it got bad test reviews either - towards the end of the cars' life they began getting negative, but most reports from around '78 (introduction of the manual option) and '83 (introduction of the 360) were very positive ...

same as early Japanese cars Tom.
If you talk enough rubbish about a car, people remember the rubbish.

I have gone back to the opinion that a handful of people on RR are geniuses, and most others are pillocks
Never has so much crap been sprouted by so few.
Apart from on Renault forums. We are so lucky we normally attract people with at least 2 brain cells to rub together on here.

The bigger the community, the thinner the quality.
Look at frickin America already.

I've added my 2 pennies worth...
Comments about vague steering and brakes are unfair. Vague steering on manual rack cars is usually the steering damper that the most people wont replace, and brakes with old fluid are always gonna be bad!
However, GLT's being slow - it's a fact with the B200E, the realisation happened when getting in a 1.3 Mpi Skoda Felicia and it being almost as quick....

So many forums (VOC, V3M, V3C, Daf Germany, Volvo Germany), I'll give RR a miss for now

Re: Retro Rides
yeah i was pretty annoyed by some of the posts so had to clear my stomach and made a account
any car with a 20+ age has poor shocks and if proper maintenance is something that you don't understand yes the car performs bad.
i still feel the seatbelt marks on my body after i refurbished + replaced brakes and fluid on my 340 cvt, drove 150kmh on a road and braked to a standstill.
and i especcially don't want to forget the 2009 Elandrun technical course where the 300's kicked ass!:
998 Rallye Ruurd 360 01:03:99
801 Jan Coomans 850T5R 01:05:85
804 Emile v Zuijlen 850 T5+ 01: 07:12
802 Eugene Knooren 850T5 01:07 :12
912 Erik Buijs 343 01:07 :51
807 Sebastiaan Schutten S70T5 01:07 :89
909 Frits Hendrikx 340 01:09:04
999 Rallye Gerard 240 01:09:37
910 Thijs vd Wal 360 01:10:36
905 Paul Galama 340/360 01:10:58
those 850's were 300bhp+ machines, with sport suspension + brakes
off that top 10:
rallye ruurd with a std b200e 360 with stripped, lsd and rally suspension,
erik buijs with his 343 1.7 turbo (about 130bhp)
frits hendrickx with his 340 1.7i (about 110bhp but with engine problem)
thijs vd wal with a stock 360 (b200e)
paul galema with a 360 gls running on lpg.
i was there with my red 340 cvt, did 1:15. not bad for a bone stock car if you see the laptimes of other volvo's:

Re: Retro Rides
The amount of BS that sometimes gets spouted on bigger forums is just amazing. There was a thread on volvo-forum.de recently, when a group of people were insisting that the saloon version of the Volvo 300 was called a 360. And that there had also been B14-engined 360s
I think you can only read when logged in:

I'd fit right in.
Re: Retro Rides
Look at Retro Rides own track times from last year. A load of V3M'ers, all who havn't seen a track before nor an auto test and pulled some epic times compared to what else was running.
Ah well, to many people are lusting after them already, maybe we should all just agree, say they are crap and have the goodies to ourselves!

Yeah! They're not even proper volvos
Re: Retro Rides
Screw them, I dont want them to live Volvo's, just tell us when they know of cheap ones around lol Otherwise prices get inflated and more get tramped.
They clearly didnt drive my AE86 when I bought it with original shocks etc, cause that handled like a 10k drift car straight away..... NOT!

The amount of mechanical knowledge shown by most members here put the majority of forums to shame.
I added a wee post extolling the virtues of the 360
