Volvo bodykits.

As some of you may know, I have recently bought Ali's old turbo 360... It's got an original GLT bodykit (front and rear valances and side skirts) like this:

Image

I'm going to be drifting the car, and before i do, i was thinking about having a mould made of the kit and a few replica's made (i realise that these aren't common, and it's likely to get damaged). The work would be carried out by a professional, and costs kept to a minimum for obvious reasons.

Is there any genuine interest in a few replica kits from forum members? I would be aiming at around 200 per kit, obviously if i can get them at a better price then i will.

Sorry if this is against any forum rules, mods feel free to delete if it's out of order. This would be a one off affair, i'm not going to be going into production, just thought it may benifit the V3M community.

I think that any action that aims to preserve our beloved cars and their accessories is very much approved here, after all isn't that reason why this place exists in first place!

Congrats from buying this great car :D

Is this 200 of Island's money or old continent's money? Not that it would make real difference to those interested, but it of course helps with budget plans.

Also I believe that you might not make all sales right off, but more like in year time as not many might have funding ready (or make that I don't :P ). Would this pose a problem?

As I'm of course interested, however shipping may kill this great idea right for starters as I live in Finland so need to know if shipping is going to be a problem with such items?

Sorry for not 100% yes, there are few obstacles here, but maybe it is possible to overcome those. Like anyone fancy of delivering stuff to Germany where it is cheap to post them?

I'm more concerned in the amount of interest than the details of actual sales, details can be arranged. If enough people show an interest then i will take it further and get prices etc, but if it's one or two people then it's not going to be worth my time. A limited run of maybe 3 kits is going to cost a lot per kit, but 10 or so may bring prices down and make it worth while.

At this point it's just an idea, but one i will take further if there is enough demand.

*edit* that is a rough estimate of 200 pounds, im quite happy to arrange shipping but it may cost a bit and fibreglass bodykits are quite easily damaged in transport. If you were happy with the situation, then it's not a problem my end.

Do you have also thread at Driftworks? I would imagine few newbies might be interested to add some go to looks of their first driftmobile. I have understood many get Volvo for their 1st car to drift. Just a idea which popped to my mind :D

well, i would be very; very; very VERY interested for my 3 door 340 turbo!!!!
if price is interesting i might even order 2 complete kits.
there are probably 5 people in holland who might want a kit aswell; i could arrange the shipping in holland for it

what kit does your car have, an original 3 door kit or a 5 door kit ? (sideskirts for a 3 door fit precisely at the door, from 5 door you can see a piece "missing". for the complete story there should be a saloon rear skirt available to make a mould of

Front and rear skirt are the same. The 3-doors side skirt is different, but you can easily chop a bit of, so it will fit.

I have my frontspoiler from Denmark, and shipping is possible. The seller made a complete box for it. But it's quite a job to make many of those...

Also there is someone on V3M who has the moulds to make a 5 doors bodykit. But he hasn't much time.. maybe he is near you? Then you won't need to make the moulds by your own

It is Pete:
petefarrell360 wrote:Hi all, sorry for my long absence, just a very quick message to say, it is me who has the moulds, I have intended to for a very long time, and still do intend to produce some kits eventually. I've had some rather difficult times recently, lots of work and famiy related issues too, and things have not progressed as I would have liked.

Anyway, I haven't forgotten those of you who asked for kits a long time ago, you will be the first to be consulted about your interest. Please be patient though, it won't happen over night, and I don't intend making lots and lots of them, I've got a million and one things to do as well sadly, and if I do something, I like to do it properly!

Anyway, all the best, I'll be back properly soon with a bit of luck!

Sounds like a good plan but for the side skirts definitely best to start from a 5 door mould as this will fit both cars (cutting down required for 3 doors)

Was gonna say if you did get the moulds do you already have people in mind to look at replicating the kit for you? I was thinking along the lines of Replikit or somebody if you haven't already got people lined up.

If I had my old 16v one I probably would have liked a kit.

you will need only 1 type of mould for the sideskirts (and then a left and right one).

on a 4/5 door there are 2 sections cut out clearing the B-pillar. on a 3 door there is a something like 30cm long piece cut out from B-pillar to back. if you make the skirts with no sections cut out, you can make 2 seperate templates to cut out a 3 door or 4/5door skirt.

frontspoiler is the same for all models
hatchback has a separate skirt
saloon has a seperate skirt (longer than hatchback)

so, basically all you need is someone who can lend you a saloon rear skirt and then you have a complete V300 mk3 set to make some moulds for.

don't worry about shipping; i would personally rent a van and drive to england for a kit!!!!!!!!
