i believe some one has put a 440/460 td in a 340. which i seem to belive is the same as the r19 td. i think its possible but with hte increase in torque you'll ahve to be carefuk with the prop and gbox. some one has got a nissan td in a 360, tho in project stage atm.

Hello

I've thought about this project too as the 1.9 turbo is quite a fun engine, esp in 2nd and above.

The engine mounts for the 440 TD are quite different from the petrol variants, so much so the diesel 400s have a different bodyshell to the petrol models. The engine hangs on one mount over the cambelt area. I believe the second mount is by the gearbox. There's a reaction rod on the gearbox too.

Been a while since I last worked on a 440 TD but I have a friend with one so at some point I'll check where the second mount is.

yeah but if the 1.9 block is off the F-family; the mounting holes for the 300-1.7 engine mounts are present in the engine block. so first step is to check up the engine code of that 1.9 and see what engine family it actually is.

i believe there are 3 or 4 related topics about the 1.9td in a short period atm, this is starting to get kinda confusing :?

Mounts are all there i guarantee, the only thing i can see causing a problem would be the position of the diesel pump. I have wanted to do this swap for a while.
I had an enginehere for the bottom end and the block is compatible. I even tried a 1.7 sump on it....

interesting... as it would make quite a fun 340. But....if the block has the possibility to be mounted the same way as the B18 petrol family, how come the 400 TDs have the engine held via a mount over the cambelt area to the upper drivers side inner wing I wonder?

Quite likely the shakey ness at a resonant frequency. Could have been horrible in the cab of the 400 if there was a resonance just around eyeball shaking frequency!

Hmm seems a lot of work to have completely changed the mounts (hence bodyshell) but its very interesting re what Adam says that the D19 having the ability to use the B18/B172 mounts.

A D19 340 would be great!

I had this in mind when I liked diesel for its cheapness. But i was converted to the force, mostly by chris and adam's conversion topics

Super!

Dya have any pics?

I was tempted to make a diesel 480 but was put off by the fact the 440 petrols and diesels have such different mounts. If I'd have known what Adam has confirmed re engine mounts.... :)

Dya have any pics of the project so far?

What you using for a clutch as the JC5 g/box in the 440 has a different number of spines that the B172 340.

Why is it I find the idea of a turbo 340 and a diesel slow 480 most amusing ;)
