Peter Schmidt's newest build

Post by Fuse » 02 Apr 2010 11:23 pm

I browsed through the pics and was like this for few minutes

I think the guy knows what he's doing. :D That whole drive line with the dry-sump oiling system etc... is quite a piece of art.

yeah it really is a piece of art!

i am a bit confused with the construction linking the engine with the transmission; it looks cool but i doubt it will handle a load of torque like this

alternator on the rear is a brilliant idea! saves some space in the engine bay wich can be taken up with the supercharger :D

He has driven 11s quartermile with that setup previously with his old 8v engine. He had stock 300-series torque tube back then and it snapped half on the second run. Now it seems he has some kind of a custom axle in place. I'll doubt he would make it any weaker than the stock one is. Gearbox is a Getrag unit and diff is a multilink rear from 760 so those will hold "some" amount of power.

There was more info about the cardan axle setup at the previous page.

Clutch housing is from a Penta marine engine and axle between the engine and gearbox is a conventional steel axle with custom made splines. Though I don't see any universal joints or bushings so that's the only question mark for me, because without any universal joints or bushings the centering and balancing of the free floating axle should be veeery precise. Well we'll see how it works out. :P

Of course it could be that that's just a non completed stage and there are going to be more support bearings or something similiar.

Very interesting build anyhow.
