Is this a MkI or a MkII ?

I'm stumped, the crappy pictures don't help of course:

Could 19.06.1981
almost mean MkII ?
Cheers

Only MkII had wing indicators, so based on that it should be MkII?

MkIs had wing indicators too, from around '79 IIRC?
From that pic it's hard to tell if there's a Mk1 nose cone on it or not. The date of registration is probably the clue, but the seller messed that up in the ad as well, I'm just guessing it's June '81 ...
Cheers

I have only seen them without indicators

But then, I have seen MkI's only in pics
Found this now:
It seems it has an small indicator at wing, but only properly seen in this photo:
This one has already bigger indicator, but mirrors are still tiny ones:
Note those bumpers, car in ad has rear bumper reaching to rear wheel well when those MkI cars in photos all have short bumpers, maybe that is a clue then?

Unfortunately 1981 MkIs had the same "long" bumpers as a MkII ...

It's a tricky one!

Bummer, well, I know a solution anyway, mail him and ask pic from front, then we know
Edit: How about that small emblem at front of front door, it is two lines in MkI pics of those and only one line in car ad?

That would be too easy

In 1980 the emblem was replaced with "Volvo" and in 1981 the line between wheel arch and nose cone was replaced by the long bumper.
Maybe there's some other detail other than the front end which was changed from '81 to '82, but I don't know of any ...

I'm stumped too... logic would say it's a Mk2, but you just can't see the bottom of the wings from those angles to confirm

This is ummm, MkI 1980? Note same mirrors and wheels as car in the ad, also front wing indicator is same type as of MkII, so there are 3 different indicators, small round, big with rounded corners and this big box indicator, but still short bumpers:
Edit: Also note that 240, looks 1980 model, beginning from 81 or 82 bumpers were different, also headlights did look different, not sure if they changed those lights or their surroundings, but later they did not look that long, I think.

jep that 345 is MY80
the car in the ad is a MY81 old-nosed 343; if it had the new nose you would see the headlight sideindicators on the wings from that angle.

Those wheels also came on Mk2 GLS' though.
I really can't deal with Mk1 and mk2 date changes (as been mentioned previously, theres a reason Volvo never called them mk's!)
Picture I reckon Tom

I think you win, Anjo!

You're right, there are also people who group '81 cars (long bumpers, old nose, black '78 to '82 dash) and '82 cars (new "MkII" nose, early dash) together ...

Transition from MkI to MkII clearly was quite smooth and happened over the years, not like MkII to MkIII transition where all did happen at once, kind of
BTW does anyone have any idea why B200K models have that odd backbox design? Even diesel has more flowing back box and typically diesels are bit noisier because of high compression and because of no throttle butterfly, so I find it odd if it would be because of the noise?

i personally put all the 343/345's on one big pile and name it MK1
my MK2 starts with the new namebadges 340 and 360 from MY83 till MY84
and obviously MK3 starts with the MY86 cars
no hassle; easy dividing of all cars and everyone knows what you mean on first notice.
they felt the need to change so much in the early years that it is better to divide the 343/345 with the modelyear rather than a mk type; if you would want to divide 343/345 you really need 3 MK versions just for the 343/345 cars..
imagine yourself in a few years telling a volvo-300-novice that his '89 340 cvt is a MK16.2 cvt; and see that chap go to a Volvo dealer and tell the man at the desk "hello, i need a pair of variomatic belts for my MK16.2 volvo 340" it just wouldn't make any sense..
