I can see my face in it...

Post by Ian Mac » 31 May 2010 10:37 pm

I thought I'd treat the 340 to a coat of Maguires. It came out so well I decided to clean-up the engine compartment as well. Guess what, it wouldn't start. Distributor caps and hosepipes don't mix too well... :?

It wasn't so difficult to be honest, I had a good base to work from. This is probably the best £750 I ever spent, I just wish it had a five speed box, decent stereo, electric windows, heated seats, electric windows etc etc. Still, 22000 miles from new and spare wheel never fitted. Can't have it all I suppose..

Looks like you've got yourself a really good one there Ian, and in a nice colour too. Never mind it doesn't have the toys, base spec cars have a certain purity about them. And you're no doubt getting better than my 360s 28-30mpg average!

Cheers Rob. It is a nice one and mpg falls anywhere between 28 and 42 mpg with an average of around 35. I'd still be glad of a decent stereo though but the car is so damned original I don't want to spoil it..!!

Are you still playing with Metros?

Great job, really nicely shining and engine bay is nice touch, it is like brand new :D

I think that colour is bit same as poo, not my favorite, but I think that at some time it was very popular choice, also I would think that it is quite practical too :P

Where you guys keep finding these gems? :D

I agree it's not the best colour in the world although the recently added twin coachline has brightened things up a little.

It makes a refreshing change not having to deal with rust so I can live with the colour but a decent stereo and five speed gearbox would be very welcome. I just don't want to mess about with the originality - even the coachline was the subject of much inner debate...

I like the coachline personally. Its period, and suits the colour/car well.

Looks alright I suppose ;)

Fit a stereo though... the torture of having to listen to broadcast radio versus originality which can easily be restored... there's no question!

Ive never had a car with a stereo decent enough to bother using, so all my traveling is to the sound of gear changes and engine breaking.

Who needs tunes?!

The coachline sets it off a treat, looks like an original 80s fit too. As for Metros, yes I'm still tinkering with them although I haven't driven my miniMetro for a couple of months as it could do with a good service. The P-reg 114 is still my regular driver with the 360 saved for long weekend trips out (makes me look forward to weekends even more :) )

Your old Surf re-appeared for sale recently, not sure if it stayed within the club circle though.
