Try asking one or both what the diameter of the fire ring on the head gasket itself it.
Can it be that the bore is the same on those engine's? But that the piston make a further 'travel' so that the actual displacement is a bit larger?

The B200 and B19 are both 1.986 cc.

Bore sizes

Post by mac » 27 Jun 2006 11:30 am

B19 & B200 Bore is 88.9 - 88.95 (depending whether block is C,D,E or G)

B23,B230 & B234 is 96.0 - 96.05mm (depends if block is C,D,E, or G.)

In all cases the stroke is 80.0mm.

Thanks for that, then it's just weird that these gasket sets are both listed for B19 and B21.

Thanks!

I've sent the guy an e-mail about having an item listed for two different engine's.

When I said "bore", I didn't mean "stroke" by accident ;) I don't think it's wierd...I think it's an eBay seller shifting dodgy parts sm56

Got this back from seller:
I have checked a FAI gaskets catalogue and it confirms as per my description the same head gasket set for both models. You are correct the engine bore sizes are different but they use the same head set.
I don't know what to believe, still, I want to replace the cylinder head. When I go to the dealership they can most likely get me the correct gasket set, but at a price...

Can i buy this set? The other ebay advert tells the same thing; Gasket set both for B21 and B19 engine's... :?:

head gaskets

Post by mac » 28 Jun 2006 09:51 am

Ok - chapter n' verse.

Volvo list the same gasket, part no.1378645 for B19, B200 and B21 - I have checked this morning - a 1975 240 B19, 1978 240 B21, 88 360 B200, and all show the same head gasket.

I guess the gasket fits the larger bore (B21 max 92.05mm) and the isicrepancy with the smaller bore (min 88.90) is regarded as acceptable (max difference is only 2.15mm (and could be a little less @ 2.05mm).

Looks like the seller is ok.

Well that's shocking! Volvo obviously inset the fire ring on the B19/B200. Crazy Swedes. I take it all back Mr eBay seller.

cheers
