Weather Strip 4/5 doors

Post by Doeke Dobma » 13 Jul 2008 04:10 pm

G'day

I'm desperately looking for the weatherstrips which can be found between the glass and the trim moulding, if you know what I mean. I've added some pictures to make it clear. I need them for al the 4 doors. They have to be new. Who can help me with this?

Greets from Holland,

Hi, have you tried the Volvo dealer yet? I bought the last of the UK stock of weather strips and had some shipped in from Sweden, but Volvo discontinued the strips for 4/5 door models quite some time ago and all of the remaining stock sold, so people were using the more readily available 3 door weather strips and cutting them down to fit, however I think they are running out, as by now original strips have well and truly perished and gone brittle, so people who are interested in looking after their cars are buying the remaining stock. It's worth a try, if not Chris_C thought there were quite a few similar profiles available in general weather strips from somewhere he'd looked at.

Unfortunately at the dealer they are not longer available. I also tried several Volvo euhm... how do you say that... 'strip-down companies' but even they haven't got them anymore. Strips for 3-doors models would be no problem for me, but they're also no longer available. But then, are they still available in Sweden? My parents are going there in 3 weeks, they will try to get a set, or 2 if possible.

Does anybody have an idea which other car uses the same kind of weather strips?

There are several companies in the UK that sell trim pieces at classic car shows, last year Nick C (an old member on here who's now got Triumph Dolomites) got some at a show we went to (for the dolomite), and the profile looked very similar. I even found the leaflet for the place over the weekend, it's on my desk at home, I'll try and get it scanned.

I'm also in need of these weather strips, so would be interested to find out which other vehicles have the same profile type.

Yep, look at classic car trim suppliers... there are hundreds of varieties they stock so there's sure to be a match somewhere.... probably cheaper than Volvo anyway!

I imagine some of the warehouse type of car parts stores may stock them, next time I go near one I'll have a beak.
