Throttle cable wanted for 340 Variomatic
Urgently needed. Throttle cable for 1985 Mk2 340 1.4 Variomatic.
My car is "resting" at a specialist independent Volvo garage who try as they might, cannot find a new or even used throttle cable anywhere.
They think they have found a company to make one, but that will take some time and the old cable will have to be sent away to be used as a template. The cable is listed in all their sources as "obsolete".
They really like my car and want to help but are struggling.
This thread tells the story - http://www.volvo300mania.com/forum-uk/v ... =6&t=10687
Can anyone help please?
Thanks.

I *think* I have a 1.7 one, I don't know how compatible that is though. Probably not at all.
If its all good, I'll let you have it for free.

Re: Throttle cable wanted for 340 Variomatic
AFAIK there are no differences between a vario throttle cable and a manual one.
Dafhobby has a RHD one for sale, part no 3210829

Re: Throttle cable wanted for 340 Variomatic
The accelerator cable for the auto has an earth tag which I think is something to do with the kickdown or low gear hold. I only know this because my previous auto was stuck in bottom gear and it turned-out to be a corroded earth tag on the cable where it goes through the bulkhead. I can't imagine it would be too difficult to fabricate something if the cable is no longer available.

I agree with Ian Mac here.
It's got the kickdown thingy, as for length, I'll just check.

Re: Throttle cable wanted for 340 Variomatic
That certainly makes sense, but the parts catalogues don't seem to make a difference. LHD / RHD, B14/172/200 etc. but no manual/vario versions ...

Re: Throttle cable wanted for 340 Variomatic
True Tom.
My Virtual Machine doesn't have VADIS installed properly, so I had to reboot this machine into Windows XP
Anyway, I see it must have been a case of parts rationalisation.
Bjorn Belter did contact Danny at Daf Hobby, but he replied asking whether he knew the length of a RHD cable compared to LHD.
(To which I'm a little surprised given his advert for a RHD one)
3210828 LHD (replaced the old part number 3209479)
3210829 RHD (replaced the old part number 3209476)
Spoke to FotV300 and George said if there was sufficient interest (say at least 10) then a batch could be made.
Anyone got a RHD / LHD 1.4 cable handy to compare the lengths? (outer cable length and inner cable length in centimetres)
Anyone with a 1.4 manual could they have a peek under the bonnet and look at the throttle cable at the bulkhead, does it have a short spring there and a redundant electrical spade tab?
Rich

Thanks all for your thoughts and comments.
This is turning into a bit of an international rescue!
I was a bit surprised at Danny's question, especially as he appeared to be advertising RHD cables, but hey ho.
We'll see how things progress.
Thanks again.

Re: Throttle cable wanted for 340 Variomatic
yes, the cvt/manual cables are the same for B14 engines, the 343/345 ones are different as they have the throttle mechanism on the valve cover instead of next to the carb..
Danny's question is probably because he wants to make sure he sends the right part, that's all
